Critique my WC setup? Pros help me plz.
First water cooling rig:
Athlon 3200+ (s939, 90nm) plan on heavy overclocking 6800GT (heavy overclocking, SLI when available) Components: DD TDX CPU block Maze NB block Maze 4 GPU block 2x DD Dual heater cores and shrouds. DD 12v pump 1/2 ID tubing Cheapo-style DD 5 1/4" bay resevoir Flow schematics: Pump>cpu>dual heater core 1>gpu>dual heater core 2>res>back to pump>ad infinitum Add your thoughts, but here's one thing I would like clarified, specifically: is having twin dual heater cores worth it with what I am trying to do? Would I be better off w/ just one? Or should I do independent loops (loop1: cpu, nb; loop2: soon to be sli graphics cards). Im using a Lian Li mid tower case, a pc6070, custom modded with a rectangle cut out for the heatercore on top, and I am gonna cut another one out on the bottom after removing the drive cages, that is, if it is even worth a damn. I know heatercores are best known for their non-restrictive flow, but would having 2 dual heater cores in one loop defeat the purpose. Again feel free to add whatever you want to the mix but try to address the heater core question if possible. Thx. |

No such thing as a stupid question,,, just stupid answers,,, pipe the heater cores in parallel after the pump and before the cpu.also pull outside air into the case through the heater cores. space the fans about 1" away from the cores with a shroud.

I dont think I wanna do it this way, but if it is the most likely to give me the best results, I will try. I was planning on either 1) 1 loop, 2 HC series 2) 1 loop, 1 HC, 3) dual loops, pumps, HCs. Anyone tried anything similar and wasnt to share their experience? Thx |
pump> hc's> blocks> res> pump. Having the heater cores in series adds unnecissary restriction to the loop. The north bridge really dosn't need water cooling, a good heat sink with a fan or passive cooling willwork just fine.(the advantage will be lowering the loop restriction even further)
edit: don't pressurize the res what ever you do! :rolleyes: |
ok so i am nixing the NB sink. Won't splitting the tube to run parallel HCs lower the flow rate and restrict anyway? Thats why i thought it didnt matter series vs parallel
anyway, anything else? you think the dual HC's will be worth it? |
use "y"s deigned for 5/8"tubing and strech the 1/2" inch id tubing over them. the added restriction will be very small.

Watercooling is quite a ballancing act. At this point all I can tell you is read, read, and read some more, After you think you have read enough, read it all again!!! There is a wealth of information in these pages. I have some of my work posted in these forums, my system is working adaquately, but compaired to a lot of the people in this forum I am a newborn N00B thrice over!!! Pay attention to Unregistered, pHaestus, jaydee116, cathar, and the rest of the professors of cooling!!!

i run a HC and a BLpro dual in series after the cpu block myself. my GPU block has its own seperate loop.
