AMD64 and TEC
 

I am new here. I currently have DD dual heatercore, mcw6002-64, mcw50, and Athlon 64 3200 winchester 939 and msi k8n neo2. I am looking for other members pelt cooling A64 also. I figured my heatload when overclocked theoretically will be 118w my pelt is 226.1w and my Delta T Max of the pelt is 67c. so I was going to get a meanwell 320w and some supplies later this week. Will I be able to use the meanwell with a 226w pelt and a 80w pelt for the GPU? Or will I need to mod off of the 12v on my ocz powerstream 520w? There is a meanwell 600w at sidewinder, but it's $230!! A little more than what I want to spend for a 2nd PSU. Also the swiftech mcw6002-64 is 63.5 x 63.5 mm. the Pelt is 50 x 50mm and my cpu including heatspreader is about 40 x 40mm. so is this ideal? I think as long as the block covers the pelt I am fine, but if the pelt is slightly larger than the cpu is that still ok? Please give any tips or advice for A64 tec. I am new to TEC. thanks :)

Oh, and can I mod my existing mcw50 with some foam and 80w pelt? or do I need to buy the mcw50T?

Wha? Your not thinking about using a TEC with out a cold plate are you? I don;t think there are any MCW6000 series blocks that support a TEC as there is no bolt holes for a cold plate.

Coldplate? is that necessary? I just thought you put the cold side of the pelt on the cpu heatspreader and clamp it down with the waterblock and you're ready to roll. Why can't you just clamp it down or use a piece of copper or something as a cold plate if it's really necessary? I saw someone in the water/phase section and they used a 6002-a for a pelt. so it must be possible? sorry, i am new to all this. couldn't I just squeeze one of these in there between the cpu and the TEC? why do you need screws? wont the force from the block keep it in place? http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/mer...duct_Code=5915

Not sure who used what for what. A proper TEC setups uses a cold plate that has enough bolt holes to properly apply the amount of force needed to make the TEC transfer heat efficently. Usually this is around 150PSI+. If you tried to put that much pressure on the CPU you would break it.

The cold plate is usually around 3/8" to 1/2" thick with 1 to 2 bolts holes on each side of the TEC for even pressure.

this is basically the same block I have with everything ready to roll. do you know of anyone else on the forum that is pelt cooling A64?

There are a number of good TEC setups less expensive than Swiftechs. If you want a professional one then get that latest one of Swiftech's not that older one. I would highly recommend buying DIRECTLY from Swiftech and avoid CrazyPC. Any outfit that sells a chunk of 1/8" copper plate and calls it a cold plate are either ****ing idiots or simply in it for the money.
