Hardware Help
***If this is not in the right place, I'm sorry***
Well, basically I'm new here (to the forums at least). I've built one comp, which consists of a Barton 2500+/Abit NF7-S/Radeon 9700 Pro, and the CPU is watercooled. I now have some money, and I'm looking to build a new one..mostly for gaming. I want to watercool almost everything, but I'm still not sure what I'm going to buy. This is what I've looked at so far..sorry that they are in link-form. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=80060-13 -RAM http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...Code=80718-OEM -CPU http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=241158 -MOBO http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=101203 -HD http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321311 -VIDCARD I want to watercool this beast, but I'm still not sure if that's good enough..if you guys would change anything, tell me. I want this to be an almost perfect system..if you like this and love me, please recommend some blocks..recommend any other parts also..I got around $1500 to spend on hardware. Also..it'd be nice if this was to last at least 2 years before I would upgrade again ;). Thanks so much...responses will be appreciated =). ----Snow |
Yeah, a few changes spring to mind. I'd go for a Winchester-core CPU. PC2700 RAM is certainly not what you want; Samsung TCCD-based PC3200 would be a whole lot better. For God's sake, make sure the HD has an 8MB or bigger cache. That one's NOT negotiable IMO. The vidcard you've selected is top of the line, but so is the pricetag. Depending how the rest of the system specs out, you might reconsider for that reason.
There are two CPU blocks worth primary consideration right now: Cathar's G4/Storm and the Swifty 6000/6002. GPU block will depend on card. Lots of pump info around here; Laing D4 (performance) and DDC (quiet) seem the hot picks lately. Get a case that will allow a big rad. |
The video card you selected doesn't fit the mobo
vid card -> AGP mobo -> PCI-X If you want the X800, get the PCI-X version PC3200 ram is an absolute minimum on this mobo imo I'd get a Corsair TwinX dual channel kit of PC 4000 ram or so if you want to overclock it and not be limited by the ram... |
I'd also spend the extra couple of bucks on the hard drive and get 8MB of cache instead of 2MB.

Ty ty..fast responses=yay. About the video card...I sorta want that beast, but is it really needed? It would be worth it, so I thought, but is it to you guys?
About the HD: Thanks :o. About the CPU: Well...newegg found these for Winchester --- http://www.newegg.com/app/searchProd...For=winchester What would you recommend and why? Any reason why it > http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...Code=80718-OEM ? So you guys like the motherboard? Thanks so much again...you guys are great :D |
