Is that a single pass ?!
|
Holy shit...I'll take two!!!!
BTW how thick is it? Is it an Extreme or a Pro? And the fins they look less dense. Whens the release date? Will there be a II version? I am going to be ordering two soon and I would wait. Please, Willie ol pal o buddy o pal, let him release some informational tidbits? |
Nice :D
Can you give us some more info about it pHaestus ? |
pretty clear what it is, a BIP 3 single pass
lots of capacity there ! just ask which retailers are going to be carrying it, the usual crew I suspect |
That thing is beautiful! Now I got to ask, how much of a difference is the single pass going to provide over a dual pass? Now I'm getting itchy.
|
aw crap, I did not pay attention to your words
yes, I have that data too but lets see what pH wants to do |
We seem to be inching closer to an actual "made for computer water-cooling radiator", and this is a good thing.
Still too many people out there with radiators that only work really well with noisy fans. Nice to see some smarter optimisation of radiators for use with quiet fans to give the real joys of water-cooling, kicking air-cooling in the rear but in near silence. |
I would give Willie credit for his rads, they are in fact 'made for computer cooling'
how effective his various models are is quite another story the made-to-fit heatercores and oil coolers are cheap, ugly, and mostly the wrong size; so its really a cost/features issue and not a performance one |

Single-pass Suited for quiet lower-powered fans and acceptable performance with such Still a way to go to be sure. Could be improved ala Lytron-style with the tubes. Could spend more effort on tuning the finnage vs thickness thing. Could offer optional properly designed shrouds for a nice performance boost. Basically do everything possible to complement high radiator performance with quiet fans in a small form factor. Still more work to be done, but at least it's a step in the right direction is all I'm saying. For a radiator to be "made for computer cooling" the HWLabs radiators really need to step away from the car heater-core heritage and be built from the ground up to suit the goals of water-coolers. An opportunity to lead the water-cooling radiator market forwards? |
Willie has had that single pass for some time, its just not available from retailers
Swiftech had no interest as Willie sells also directly to our distributors, no way to make a buck - not gonna be offered (by us) you will see that single pass is not necessairly better, it all depends . . . . . |
I am not certain whether this is a "one off" or a normal commercial part. It's a single pass Black Ice Pro 3 that is polished instead of painted or plated. I am not at all certain the barb placement and tank sizing are optimized. Should be a good match to an mcp 650 or mcp600 and a G5 wb though :)

I stripped my previously owned BIX2 becuase it arrived scratched from the original owner.
I was going to re-paint it but instead polished up the brass. It's a real looker now. I don't know why they don't just release a polished brass version. Maybe becuase of the solder joints but you hardly notice them at all over the "Bling Bling" the brass brings. You could call it the Brass ICE Xtreme II :D |

i thought it only affects water flow Quote:
of course once pressure drop is accounted for... maybe this is all way over my head though |
I don't understand why people would get worked up over a radiator this size. The average watercooler doesn't want to spend hours upon hours modding his case to fit a monstrosity like that. If it IS indeed three times the length of a regular Blackice Xtreme, this radiator would span the entire length of a standard ATX case. Meaning it can ONLY fit on the very bottom of the case, or the very top.
This automatically excludes ANY mid tower from use. The power supply would need to be moved, and you would most likely lose three of your four 5.25" bays due to shrouding, fans, and hoses. Recently I helped a friend install a BlackIce Xtreme 2 into his Lian Li PC60, and that required us moving his power supply to the front of the case A-La-pH PC50 style. Had we not resorted to this, the lower bank of fins on the BIX2 would have been completely restricted by the cdrom's immidately below. Here at ProCooling we often talk about bringing watercooling to the mainstream and to the average consumer - yet nobody seems to take into consideration what the average consumer really wants. I'm sorry but space is a premium in many people's lives. Cell Phones, TV's, radios, and just about every other electronic appliance commonly used, are all getting smaller. Surprise surprise... Enter Shuttle XPC. I can't imagine walking into every house and seeing a watercooling tower A-La-Airspirit. Which is why his project is so cool and unique. Am I the ONLY one who thinks that although this radiator has some nice features it's a HUGE step backwards in watercooling evolution? Quick! someone make me a single pass Blackice Xtreme rev2! |
Zoson, this particular single-pass Pro3 radiator is custom made for ProCooling, and it's not meant for average WCer. The request came from pH and me, and originally it was going to be a single-pass Pro2. But since I already sent Pro2 radis to pH, Willie made a custom single-pass Pro3 intended for an external rad-box.
Yes, this custom made unit is already a production grade item (with dies and all in) made for 'computer water-cooling' but not originally intended for commercial sale. The thing with single-pass is that you grow the rad vertically eliminating compatibility. |
What Bruce is saying is that I can make plenty of room for it in here :)
|
pH, me chuckling at your collection of pumps on shelf....
BTW I have no usable flanges here for that flowmeter, sorry, can you acquire locally? |

zoson this is a very fine radiator for a particular purpose we all understand that this is not for the mass market but its fine here at procooling nice work Bruce |
