Wrong TDX - no tabs
 

I bought a new TDX waterblock for the AMD XP/MP but I got the one that does not have the frame for tabs and that's what my motherboard uses. It seems there are two models, one with just four hold-down bolts and one with a frame piece made to work with motherboards that use tabs (like mine.)
Funny, if you look at just the words were it says what is included there is absolutely no distinction between the TDXAMD and the TDXSHD at Dangerden. I guess your just supposed to look at the title and pictures. But I didn't buy mine there so that didn't help me. I thought the "Stainless Steel Hold Down" meant it came with the frame. But i see now that both models say that even when the TDXAMD doesn't have a frame but just the bolts and screw-on pieces.

In any case now I have a very expensive waterblock I can't use. So I have the following questions:
1. Is the water block itself for the TDXAMD and the TDXSHD "exactly" the same?
2. Is it just the extra frame missing from the TDXAMD that is different? Anything else?
3. Anyone ever made a frame for the TDXAMD? Got a link to info?
4. Are there any instructions posted for installing it? It came with none and was in a sealed box.
5. Anyone got the frame piece and want to sell it cheap? (I'm running out of money here.)

As guess as a last resort I can do one of the following:
1. Sell it for a loss (I paid retail) and buy something much much cheaper.
2. Try to make my own hold-down of some kind.
3. Make some homemade thermal epoxy out of Artic-3 and epoxy and glue the water block onto the chip. Hmmmm.... :D

DangerDen does seem to have a "Convert a Danger Den - TDX block to mount on AMD motherboards with socekt tabs" for an extra $14.99 but they give no picture. I am fairly sure it is the right thing for me to buy, but seeing as I've already made one very expensive mistake on these way overpriced items I was hoping someone could confirm it was correct (Please only reply to this PS if you bought this item). Thanks!

I've not bought this item, but to me it seems you gonna have to shell out another $14.99. Unless of course your comfortable with making you're own mount!

I went ahead and bought the attachment. I was sent a nice little gadget to hold the water block down using the tabs. Of course, there were no instructions that came with it or on their web site. They don't even have a large enough picture anywhere on their web site to see how to hook it up.
So far, I am not at all impressed by Danger Dens expensive products with cryptic titles/information with no instructions inclosed. I guess next time I'll buy Swiftech.

TDXSHD = TDX Socket Hold Down (eg, tabs).

OK, anyone know how to put these things together? I would think the small metal caps that are close to the tab side of the frame would go into the bottom holes of the plastic top of the water block, but they don't fit. Beats the hell out of me. Looks so simple but with no instructions Danger Den has made a $60 door-stop. Any ideas? Any pictures showing exactly how it is done?

Remove washer and nut off end of threaded rods on the bracket. Plonk the block on with the threaded rods going thru the outer 4 holes. Stick the washer and nuts back on on the reverse side of the block.

Rod > Thumbscrew > Washer > Bracket > Spring > block > washer > nut.

samualt, I agree that DangerDen should have some installation pictures, but did you ever email their customer support?

I purchased the SHD version of the RBX a year ago to fit on my MSI K7ND Delta-L motherboard, and then later ordered a brass replacement top and ran into a problem. Tops for the SHD version of these blocks are actually threaded, while the regular 4-hole style tops are smooth bore.

Notice the holes I've circled in the pic you posted. (beware mad paint skills...bleh)

Those holes are usually threaded on an SHD version of the block. I emailed Danger Den about it, and was told to contact the sales department and they'd send me some inserts/adapters. I did not do so myself, as I ended up upgrading to an A64 rig and bought a new A64 top for my RBX.

Just give DD a call or drop em an email and they should be able to help resolve the problem. I do agree, though, that they should have better documentation on their website concerning the SHD versions.
