thermal sensor mod for laptop

hey, i havent been around here in a while,

I have a new laptop (asus m5n). The fan is kinda loud, and is on all the time. When im not doing anything, the pentium m throttles down to only 600mhz (from 1.8ghz) and makes hardly any heat. I would like the fan to turn off at this point, becauase it isnt really needed. I looked into a software solution (i run gentoo linux) but the fan state does not seem to set that way. I can see the three wires going to the fan, so I thought that maybe I could get some sort of thermal sensor thing that would allow current to pass through (and spin the fan) at above 45C or so, and block it (and stop the fan) below that temperature. I looked around a little on google but didnt find anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I had a program for my dell C400 that I could slow down or speed up the fan based on temperature. This may work in the same way as those speedfan programs, so you might want to try one of those first.
