High-Speed machining of Copper

Fabrication of high heat flux (10-20 MW/m2) components for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor ...required machining of the selected CuNiBe alloy to incorporate complex coolant channels...1-1.5 mm wide and 4-6 mm tall or deep at spindle speeds of 12,000 to 15,000 rpm with feed rates of 160 ipm.

Details (I Condensed the Statement Above) can be found here.

Yeah, seen that around here before. To bad that kind of equipment costs so much. Getting a good mill with 12,000RPM+ spindal wiith anything resembling accuracy costs some $$$.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that is not C110 Copper, it is CuNiBe alloy.

10-4 -->thought it might be of interest...hadn't seen it here.
I have seen the alloy before.

I always like seeing published feeds and speeds for unusual machining and materials.

It is quite impressive what good equipment can do.
