I wonder why they used a K Type probe. Its not that expensive to get a T type, and it'd be more accurate. Still measuring CPU temp from under the core isn't the best way to do it, no matter how good your probe is. I guess they didn't have much choice though if they wanted to use an actual S775 system and not a simulator.

We 're not rich and the thermocouple reader I get can't read Type T probes.
We make our possible with simply the ways we could get...

lots of good instruments here dirt cheap, can't imagine customs will rape you too badly for used gear ?

consider converting to 4-wire RTDs, you will get more info for the same effort
