Tranny cooler advice needed

Hi there all,

I'm trying to figure out what transmission oil cooler would work best for two 120mm Nexus fans (low flow)

The size dimensions are very strict tho, I have at most 130mm by 270mm including barbs and all. And I am hoping for as close to 1 inch thick or less because of height restrictions.

The equipment used will be
DDC
Swiftech MCW6000
eventually a GPU block
Fill and bleed

So, within those specs, any ideas? the BIP II is close to perfect, but too expensive, thus the tranny cooler.

Thanks for any help possible

The swiftech 676 radiator, which is based on a transmission cooler, is as close as I can think of off the top of my head. Skip the fill and bleed and go for one of Swiftech's reserviors. I have one. When properly placed in a loop it will improve flow through the system.

Thanks for your reply Max,

I was hoping to get a non-commercial product, for one because I'm in Canada and things tend to be a bit more expensive here, and two I'm a starving student ;)

I was reading through the HWLabs thread at the optimal dimensions for fin placement etc and was wondering where I would look to find that sort of information if someone didnt know off the top of their head.

Also, do tranny coolers have any Aluminium in them, those turbulator things? or are there any without them?

thanks again

Sorry for off topic commenting:

Maybe it's because I've been living in Australia for a while; but when you say tranny my mind turns to something completely different ;)

I just got a confirmation email yesterday from Derale that they do not make any transmission coolers without aluminum turbulators inside them. Flex-A-Lite is another big manufacturer, but I haven't had a chance to ask about the turbulators in those coolers. If you don't want to mess with aluminum, you're pretty much going to be limited to heater cores or commercial water cooling radiators. I've been looking without luck for a while for a thin copper radiator large enough for 4 120mm fans. If you find exactly what you're looking for, be sure to post it :)

I'll keep looking and let you know what I come across

Thanks for letting me know about Derale, saves me some work.

Nugit...dare I ask what a "Tranny" is in australia?

JWFokker 03-24-2005 11:35 PM

Yeah, I've thought about that too whenever I type it, but maybe I'm just immature. I'm surprised it's an Australian thing. I thought it was predominantly a Brazillian thing.

Not sure if it's aussie, thats just were I heard it used... Wasn't in my english curriculum back here thats for sure. Though a google search did turn up a danish/scandinavian site as number two.
