With a top mounted rad, you can make a tight loop with that.
A simple res/pump, block and rad setup can fit basically in the top of a case. Should be able to do it with minimal tubing, and make it look very clean. |

I'm ordering one as soon as I can. Great work, Bill. Unique engineering is always appreciated. If one's case had a 12cm blow hole in the rear it could make for a very clean install. Any OEM interest?

I've always thought that one should keep an eye on Swiftech products; I do believe that they're the ones that'll take Water Cooling to the mainstream. This product demonstrates that it's quite possible.

It looks like a great product to shrink the footprint of a system. The only criticism I can think of, is that the inlet tube on the pump looks like a restriction that people will not like. It probably makes little difference to performance but I think people like to see the inlet inside the reservoir. I guess you can’t do that because the barbs are too close, is that the PITA?

Razor6 I had the same thought, why not get the intake barb inside the res, would be ideal. After more thought though, it would be a PITA to seal that up properly unless the pump top was fused or integrated with the res.

Looks like there is a little extra space hanging around, maybe the res could be a little bigger?
Aah well, that really wouldn't change anything. I like it and I'll consider it for my next setup. |
that space is for cables from a fan controller or such

forgot to mention, i thought the pump wasn't supposed to be mounted upside-down.

yeah, it seems the impellor is upside-down, but the resevior would have no trouble flooding the pump

My first thought earlier today when I saw this thread was "mainstream" as well.
The price point is attractive. One doesn't have to be all that handy to put a system based on this package together. One small detail I'd like to see added is a "kit" that would pre-fab a fill-port for the top of the case if the pump-res were to be mounted in the top 5 1/4 slot. Can you see Alienware doing a deal on this with a Swiftech block and a Radbox HEX? Cheers, Joe |
any idea how this affects flow rate? i love the design and the fact that it can fit in a single 5 1/4" bay, but the benefits of having a direct line w/ the inlet barb installed 90 degrees is much better. i guess for someone not looking to get every degree possible out of his system, this is a great alternative. if i was going to put this in a full tower, i would definitely mod the inlet, but since i'm going to put this in a shuttle, i'll take it as is and sacrafice the few degrees for silence. this is a great product and swiftech releases nothing but quality products, but i assume DangerDen will release something similar soon as well.

Bill, I bought the DD version of the normal res and was mildly dissapointed with it. I know that you made an improvement to the cap threads (drilled a hole). However, I had other issues that may be fixable as well.
1) What do you do about air trapped in the res? I have difficulty getting the res nearly full. As full as I can get it, air is trapped in the rear section. This results in a noisy system as water burbles with the trapped air. I can rotate the case to shake water out, but I was hoping that a res would be the solution to this problem, and not perpetuate it (i.e. be able to rotate just the res to get air out). 2) The tubing runs to/from the res need extra length so that you can pull the res out the front. This leads to extra bends in the internal tubing and lateral stress on the CPU mounting when you press the res back into the drive bay. Careful measurements for the tubing lengths make sure you don't get kinks, but you do need to closely monitor the lengths. Thoughts? |

lol 1) does your res have a vent hole in the cap threads ? if not, then your description is exactly why the vent hole was put there 2ed best product ? 2) ah yes, compromises in all things the MCRES-1000 is not easy to work with, one really does need to follow the inst my old song, tubing needs to be externally supported |
