Windows XP 64 bit released

I noticed that MS has released WinXP64 finally, and that there is a 120 day free trial too. Many of us have AMD64 boxes and may be thinking of switching or already have. I am curious if the increase in performance from 64 bit will offset the slowdowns from unoptomized drivers, and I've been too lazy to upgrade my main box. I found a few articles about 64bit on desktop for gaming/normal use here:

Tech Report
Softpedia

So who's using it? Problems or successes? Might as well pretend like this is an active website and have a discussion, eh?

looks like driver support is awful so far... wont be upgrading yet

There's what seems to be a good editorial on XP64 over at overclockers.com

I used the final beta for a while. It was OK but I couldn't use things like my OEM webcam and such, for which there's no new driver support.

Why upgrade?

No plans here to change until Longhorn. I don't see the point going to a less supported OS.

I dont think im even going to install SP2.
i think its kind of funny that they kill your xp-32 licence so you cant go back if it breaks.

i read that you're going to have to install SP-2 sooner or later if you want to continue getting the updates. they're forcing everyone to use SP2.

I believe they already require SP1 for updates. It's just a matter of time before they require SP2. Really, SP2 is worth the upgrade. I haven't had any problems with it, and have been using it since it was beta. My only recommendation is to get a good third party firewall, and turn off the Windows Firewall. I haven't had any problems, and that's about all I've changed from the defaults installed with SP2.
