overclocking better

I have an Intel socket 478 Celeron 1.8GHz, P4 1.5GHz, following socket A (2) AMD Athlon 1700, (2) AMD Athlon 2000,and an AMD Athlon 1600. I was wondering how much I would be able to overclock these CPUs. I would probally have the most overclockable one be used in a liquid cooling or Peltier system.

Thanks

Is your P4 a northwood core? I can't remember where there clocks started. If so it should be good for 2.4ghz. The 1700 is your best bet. Is it a palamino or thunderbird core? What are your steppings?

How do I know if it is a palamino or thunderbird? Same for northwood?

Palomino is a fairly square die. The Thoroughbread is a rectangle...(they didnt make Thunderbirds in the new nomenclature(####+) cpus. )
He means Thoroughbred A or B.

My AMDs are square.

Is there a chart to see what should be expected for overclocking a certin CPU.

2000 will be the fastest by a long shot. Regular 1600s and 1700s didnt OC worth crap and the celly is crippled right from the start.

That depends on how new everything is, and the stepping of the CPUs. I have had very nice overclocking Palomino 1600+ CPUs, and very poor overclocking 1800+ CPUs, depends on the die. If you can give us the model numbers (written on top of the die), we may be able to help you further.

When do I know when to stop overclocking. When the system is unstable and if it is going to burn up I know, But as long as the CPU is kept cool and I keep going?

Run the torture test from Prime95 on your system after making the overclock. If it gives you errors, your overclock is not stable.

unpacked and set up an old system with a 2gig celly in it

using a swiftech 4000 and a very quiet low power 80mm fan, i got an oc to 2800MHz and prime95 stable to 2500. i actually never tried any higher than 2.8 but probally could have. i found that it wasn't prime stable and started backing off

i think a stable 25% oc is decent and 40% a pleasant surprise
