undervolt mcp650(655)
my via1300 is on its last leg. i need to give it a few beatings to get it spinning and when it s working, it rattles. got to go.
i m a very noise conscience person, the via aqua is placed on thick foam to eliminate any vibration. but even after that, the hum emitted from the pump is still noticeable over my super super silent setup. i read some reviews and comments on mcp350, very silent pump but my 1/2 ID would prolly be too much. then the mcp650(655) came to my mind, althoug it is not as silent as the mcp350, how about if i undervolt it ? does anyone know how the mcp650(655) would perform when it is undervolted at a noise level equivalent to the mcp350 ? thnx a bunch. |
The MCP350 is a very good pump; you haven't given us your setup but I doubt the MCP350 can't handle it and it's also very quiet.
The MCP650 is noisy. Undervolting it will decrease performance; you don't want to do that. The new MCP655 on the other hand, is relatively quiet. About as quiet as an Eheim 1250 according to Cathar. It's even got a speed dial so you can decrease performance and noise if you want. |
wow, just rechecked on the mcp655, i thought it was the same as the mcp650.
the mcp655 looks very attractive now. setup is: bix maze 4 z chipset bay res 1/2 ID , 3/4 OD the system is pretty high flow, and i thought maybe the low flow but high head mcp350 wouldnt really shine under this scenario. |
