Dry Ice cooling (couldnt find a better place to put this)

Ive seen a few different dry ice cooled computers, but all of them have expensive blocks and clamps and stuff. Why didnt anyone think to be this cheap before?

What is the point of dry ice cooling? It only lasts untill the ice melts no?

buttfutter 08-20-2005 04:09 PM

yeah, but ice is dirt cheap, i know that here is $.85 per pound

What exactly do you do? Refill the container everytime it melts off? What is the point of such a cooling method? Is it to try and get a high overclock long enough to make it through the benchmark or something?

Melt point at -78°C , just for benchs and max screens, like LN2 cooling.

Its for people who want screenshots to impress their e-friends or whatever they do with them.

Personally it sounds like cheating to me but I am no benchmark fanboy either. I would rather prove myself with stable computer that can do what I want it to do all the time, not just between refills of coolant. :) Whatever floats your boat though.

dry ice cooling is cheating. maintenence is too high.

why not just connect a liquid nitrogen generator to a computer and use that? at least you won't have to refill it all the time.

next time I see a cheap liquid nitrogen generator on sale, I'll grab one (sarcastic...)

Easier way to cheat in benchmark is to cool water in the frig then add it before you bench. ;) Don't use ice because it's get's too cold and starts to sweat and you get too much condensation

Jaydee is right, the benchmark is silly because honestly most people after a benchmark will lower their settings if they have some thread of commonsense.
