Dirt cheap 12V pump...

Cheap, submersible... 360GPH at 0 head. Thoughts?

nikhsub1 08-22-2005 11:17 AM

I wouldn't use it... but whatever. "Its maximum pumping height is 5 ft."

starbuck3733t 08-22-2005 12:53 PM

yeah, it's specs are crap but damn its cheap. I'm debating it for a water-to-water intercooler I'll build once it starts getting cold outside.

... circulation pump.
low pressure makes it (almost) useless for a watercooling loop.
... mtbf?

Not bad.

Not great, but not bad; at least it runs at 3 volts; plenty of applications for that feature alone.

Nice and small!

Wal*Mart in the Outdoor-Sports section sells bilge pumps that are beefier and cost $12. However, you only get one port outlet since the bottom uses a grill inlet suction side. Maybe it can be submersed into a reservoir made from a plastic coffee can. ;) I wonder where I've seen that recently. ;)

the avg bilge pump isnt made to run 24/7. It will die within a few days if you try it.

Maybe, maybe not. I got a RULE bilge pump that is my sump pump back up device. OK, so I mod even my house now. ;)

That bilge pump was not fully in place earlier this summer. We had a power outage and the basement flooded. When we arrived home, I had to wear firemen's boots to slop around down there. The 800gph bilge ran for several hours non-stop until the basement water level fell below the sump hole.

As for a longer term duration of running a bilge pump days-on-end, I have no clue.

I'd rather not go into it, for various reasons, but I'll give you a hint: "Energy Star".
