PNY 6800GT did not work with watercooling

I finally rebuilded my PC and what was my surprise, when after installing the DangerDen NV-40 v1.1 waterblock on the damn noisy PNY 6800 GT card, the machine refused to boot. I reseted bios - no help. I replaced the card with oldie FX5200 - machine worked. Back with 6800GT - not working again.
And then I get the idea - plug the fan back to the PNY cardie, it might... Any yea! It works now.

Of course, running my machine with opened case, and fan running on DFI manual sitting on Audigy 2 zs card aren't somewhat exactly what I hoped for, so my question is - anyone ever deal with such protection? And how?

I quess that best way will be to change the bios, right? :(

Any help?

PS. hardware solution in limited complexity is possible as well, but I really want guickly get over this nonsense protection. Damn, I got angry. I quess someone on PNY has to read my angry letter then...

PS2. PNY 6800 GT, Bios: 5.40.02.15.51

If you can't solve the bios issue, I hear the artic cooling vga silencers are quiet and cool well.

Yeah, I would try a different bios first. Check this place out [url]http://www.mvktech.net/[/ur].
They have a huge collection of Bioses and related tools. I'm sure you cand find the one you actually need to get that going. I've never had that issue with any of my GT's, although they were all BFG made.

The BIOS from BFG, XFX and eVGA have the fan protection disabled if I remember correctly so try and flash it to one of them.

My BFG 6800GT has been running without problem for a year on water

The Leadtek 6800GT also doesn't have a fan protections. It works great with water-cooling.

does it complain about what? no current or lack of rpm signal ?

It is the RPM sensing the BIOS normally complain about.

Well, it does NOT complain about anything (unlike R9800Pro running without the external power cable, taht correctly display the message on monitor...) - it just did not run at all
VGA bios never initialize, so the machine never post.

Silencer is great, I actually have one on backup 6800 LE card:

...but unfortunately this is NOT what I wanted...
And certainly not what I payed good deal of money for the DD NV-68 block.

But one nice guy at Extreme forums come already with solution - make the fan spin, measure the lowest resistance and then replace the can with a resistor of the same resistance you measured :p

1k Ohm resistor, rated for 0,5W (originated in Russia, BTW) is sitting into the cardie fan power socket - I took the connector and very small part of the cable fom my old, dead eVGA 5700U card and covered it with the soldering points into PVC isulating spaghetti
So I should be safe. :p

Now using Russian parts to make American card works, uhm, errr, well... :p
