Iwaki vs BlueLine

I just ordered a new Iwaki MD20 for my system but the pump I received had a cracked impeller housing so I contacted the store for a replacement. The reccomended that I replace the pump with the BlueLine equivalent of the MD20. Supposedly the pumps are designed and built by former Iwaki chief engineer. The pumps are much cheaper, have almost exactly the same specs and are said to be better built. Does anyone have some experience to confirm/disprove this?

Uhh, don't let the store try to convince you out of the Iwaki... likely they dont have more MD20's and find it easier to convince you to get the blueline. Iwaki is proven, blueline is not yet. Get the iwaki.

BlueLine is good stuff. May not be proven in the PC water cooling area but it is in the area it was designed for.

These pumps are designed and built by a former chief engineer from Iwaki-Japan. They feature the same flow curves, high head pressure, low noise, and reliability that have made Iwaki the best magnetic drive pumps available. The BlueLine HD pumps are even slightly quieter than Iwaki, with a lower frequency. These units are yellow rather than green and carry a full 5 Year parts and labor guarantee. All seal-free bearings and magnetic drive for 10+ years of useable life. No seals to leak!

BlueLine are rebadged PanWorld pumps I believe.

There's a lot of anti-Iwaki bias in their marketing material, but I have never seen the same level of anti-Panworld bias in Iwaki's marketing material. I take that as a statement of the respective marketing strategies, rather than any statement of actual pump quality.

Marketing aside I havn't heard anything bad about them? Isn't Pan World the same one's that make the D5, MCP600/655, Aquaextreme 50/150Z?

Cathar 10-03-2005 08:16 PM

PanWorld make the MCP600 & Aquaextreme 50/150Z

Laing make the MCP655 / D5.

I guess I'll find out this Friday once I get it. Too bad I don't have an Iwaki to compare it against.

ricecrispi 10-04-2005 05:00 PM

I bet that engineer was bitter with iwaki.

Last I knew Panworld/Blueline do not have the Z version of the MD20 though. Please correct me if my info is out of date.

If they'd offer a "Z" version I'm sure more water coolers would have a interest in them.

jaydee 10-08-2005 10:08 PM

I doubt PC water coolers are their target audience. I am not really sure why PC water coolers really need such a pump anyway?

The new pump finally came and I'm very pleased with it. No problems at all so far, it's very powerful and very quiet. I can barely hear it over my hard disk spinning.

zackbass: just curious if you had any updates on your blueline hd pump? im assuming you got the hd20 model...

i am thinking about getting the blueline NS series bl-800 - does 875gph with 15ft/head and uses 40watts....for the same price i can get the step up model 1100 which does 1105gph with 18ft/head but it uses 70watts so im not sure if the small gain in head/gph is worth the extra heat..

Uhh, the D5 does about 13 foot head with only 16w. Both those pumps are no good in terms of specs for our use.

The pump is still working great. I'm very satisfied with inital quality but only time will tell about reliability. All I can say about that is that it has been running strong and quiet since I plugged it in on Oct 22.

i guesss i am confused since people will recommend the iwaki 20z in a heartbeat which granted has more head pressure at 0ft but uses 45w and a good chunk of that heat will get into the water...

the ns series is sealed / fan cooled so a lot less of the 40w it uses will make it into the water hopefully..

and the d5 pump whine is annoying at best - i know cuz i have 2x ;)

"no good in terms of specs for our use"
indeed, lol
just went to a 30Z and am most impressed

a WMD uses a plastic spacer instead of the al housing extending over the drive magnet, should transfer less heat
March 3 series has the same but is open as well

Long Haired Git 11-18-2005 01:54 PM

Other's have reported degregation traversing from 20Z to 30Z, and my simplistic model reports the same. Shame CoolingMaster's haven't done the heating test on them like they did on the others.

BillA 11-18-2005 02:00 PM

test loop, heat dump not significant
"for our use", lol

always thought that the WMD's hotter casing meant less heat to the liquid...

BillA 11-18-2005 05:58 PM

I never thought to think 'backwards' re why (assuming motor eff similar)

arctic-k20 11-18-2005 10:01 PM

me = confused ??
