Ram Waterblocks?
Does anyone know of commercially made Ram waterblocks?
My BH-5 gets rather toasty when you pump 3+ volts through it and was wondering whether water RAM blocks existed. I had thought Alphacool do some but when i just checked their webby i couldnt see any... Thanks in advance. |
hmm never heard of any ram waterblocks except for those on graphics cards, were it cools both the Graphics Chip and it's Ram (For Geforce 6800 i think) but thats it. Best thing would be just some Copper Ram Heatsinks, no point in hindering watercooling performance by adding Ram waterblocks (If they exist), if you need better heat dissipation just add a fan blowing onto the heatsinks somehow :).

There are a few that do exist, such as-
http://svc.com/akfl-rc-sil-45.html I swear I saw one from Aquacomputer (or similar name?)just the other day but I havnt been able to find where I saw it again. Although I tend to agree that liquid cooling ram really wont do that much compared to how much more drag it will put on flow, as well as the added heat. I havnt seen any real numbers to support my thoughts though. I also would imagine that this block will screw you out of extra memory slots due to its size. Id really say just find good aftermarket copper heat spreaders and make sure you got some decent airflow in that area. |

I really believe watercooling ram is useless. More work and money than is required to achieve to keep the ram cool. Kinda like using an axe to trim hedges. Just place a fan over them and find some mounting ideas like using 90 degree metal bracket or something. You could even use zip tie to mount a fan to blow air over the ram. There was a recent thread link |
It is useless, but if one must then aquacomputer do `em (they often get confused with alphacool). Personally, Prometeia Sealing String + 80mm fan works well on ram.

I,ve done some research on this:
Its only worth it if you are using sub-ambiant liquid or are trying to build a really quiet computer. |

Sealing String = Bluetack, except stickier and black. Blob in 2 corners of the fan, stick it to the edges of the ram. Voila. 80mm fan attached and blowing or sucking directly onto/off the ram... 5v down to minimum airflow. Doneskis.

Gotcha - Ta. :)
