Flow Boiling In Woven Mesh Structures
while researching a better PID controlled heating element for an environmental test chamber I came across the work of Richard Wirth at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University Of Nevada, Reno
which may be of some interest (best taken in order) all PDF High Performance Woven Mesh Heat Exchange for The Missle Defense Agency via the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Flow Boiling in Woven Mesh Structures for Cooling of High Power Micro Electronics for NASA (FC-77 = Flourinert FC-77 (-110 deg C to 97 deg C) |
Hmmmm.... will have ratch round, see if we have anything on file from ESA work... doubt it, but wish we had!

hmm interesting.

Edit: My bad whacked in the wrong numbers, into a calculation i think. i'll summerise it below im not sure what they are refering the area to.
C/W = 1/(u*D*D) D=50mm (say for a big ihs mught be 50mm on side assumes constant temprature distribution which is wrong0 u=1000 (a good guess for their graph values) c/w=0.4 (this does not include ihs or intergrated block heat spreader values i.e block thickness to take care of temprature difference in the cpu core) One final edit, it should be noted that their cooling "fin" is rather small |
