Insulated Peltier?

I just got a new peltier, and where my old one had some kinda calk, I can see the electrodes on this one. Do I need to worry about this?

That's called potting, the old peltier was potted, and your new one isn't. Potting prevents air from going inside the peltier, condensing, and shorting it out. Yeah, it's pretty important to pot it, bath tub caulk should work well for potting, Joe has used automotive RTV sealant with success also.

DO NOT EVER USE RTV

I was stupid when I did that!!

RTV contains acetic ( sp?) acid and will not only act to trap moisture in the pelt, but will also eat the innards of the pelt.

Use a Urethane based or something besides silicone. I am using Plumbers or Marine GOOP to Pot mine from now on.

heh...you can just buy potting compound also...I am at school right now, but I have the site at home where to buy it...i'll repost later...the potting compound is the only thing that seems to keep water vapor from the peltier

Joe 01-31-2001 11:57 AM

Urethane does also.

forget that...i'll just sell it and get a potted one

Cablepro 01-31-2001 04:58 PM

HOLY SHIT!!!...I just went to that website that has the potting compound, and they sell it in a 0.8 Gallon size...
