Cola chiller inside case with 1 PSU?
I have bought a 74W pelt that will be used to chill an isolated tube (big enough to cope with 2L coca cola bottles ^^), the question is; will my Tagan 530W PSU be enough? The PSU features dual 12V rails capable of delivering 20 Amps each, it also has a "combine" mode that combines the two rails into one that is able to deliver 33 Amps, (396W).
Will this be enough to power the pelt? The pelt is supposed to run at 15V and i will run it at 12V so it will draw a little bit less, but how much? The PSU also has to power the rest of my system, which consists of a A64 3200+ (Venice), two optical drives, two sata harddrives and a GF6800 Ultra. Comments please! :) |
Check the specifications for the Peltier. Power consumption of those gadgets is complex. If you tweak the voltage, then the current consumption will go down. Also, those specs assume a specified hot and cold side temperature for the Peltier, and those values will also affect the electrical behavior of the peltier. Very touchy feedback loops are all over the place with peltiers that way.
A general trend I have seen with pelts is to expect about twice the power consumption in watts as the heat removal function. At 12 volts, I would guess probably a eight amp draw or so from that thing, or ~100-110W off the power supply....should be doable with the one you have. At twelve volts, the heat work function would probably drop somewhat lower as well, perhaps ~60W? |

Thanks for your fast replies!
So it seems that i am in the green for now. :) I just have to come up with a plan on how to mount a waterblock on the pelt and how the cold side would look. Im thinking of using the heatsink that came with my processor, just have to remove the fan and drill 4 holes so that i can squeeze the pelt between em and tighten real good (pelts do require alot of pressure right? O_o). Does it sound like a good plan or do you guys have something better in mind? :) DryFire: Well a 2L coke does not generate any heat thankfully, i just want my case fridge to keep my cola cool when i take it out of the standard fridge and bring it to my room. ^^ I hate when it becomes all warm and shit, and im waaay to lazy to go and pour up a glass of coke over at the fridge when i want some. :D ;) |
awesome, someone ripped off some of my tables and didn't credit me (original is here)
they even had the same discrepancy of Watts for the 120watt peltier and watt for the 226watt peltier. those bastards (them being the guy at SPCR) |
edited to reflect the origional source.
