cold plates: thickness and location.
how thick should a coldplate be? I'd imagine the thicker the better up to the point that it slows down heat transfer from the core to the pelt/hsf.
Also...i realize you should have one between the core and the cold side on your pelt...but should you also have one between the hot side of the pelt and the hsf/waterblock? If the pelt is smaller than the waterblock, wouldn't this help dissipate the heat of the pelt into the hsf? Also..is the minimum gain in heat transfer worth the cost of silver versus copper? And what about aluminum. Heh, this is alot for one topic, so i'll stop here :P ------------------ 1.2Tbird @1456 with winter air cooling...yeah baby! |
1 - 3/8" is better than 1/8"
2 - if the wblock is smaller than the pelt... u must put a heatspeader inbetween.. or else u'r risking to kill your pelt!! 3 - silver -> for me... nope.. alu -> cheap, easy to machine material.. but only pure alu has the thermal properties u want.. but copper rulez! winter air cooling?? Q: what have u done against condensation? ------------------ OC'ing is my middlename |
water condensation? blah :P hehe
actually, i need to change my signature...it warmed up here for a few days, so i moved my big window fans into the basement....of course now its snowing again :P cackle. The risk of condensation was small...only cooled it to 17C or so....the risk of water blowing in through the fan was much greater..but i put filters in the tubing going from the fan to the cpu. Not a problem anymore since my next step is watercooling http://www.procooling.com/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ 1.2Tbird @1456 with winter air cooling...yeah baby! |
