CPU upgrade and need power supply..
Hey,
I have a question, has anyone tried dropping in a 486 overdrive CPU on a 2000 model? Just thought that might be fun. Also, I am in need of a functioning power supply from a 2000 model and possibly the casing also. If anyone has one for sale, please let me know. Thanks! |

Here is alink to a company that bought some surplus supplies from Adaptec/SnapAppliance. http://www.northwesttechnical.com/
As far as do a cpu swap Not me. You will proably have to do a some kind of mb mod. As models changed so did the pin out. I saw this done on an old scanjet5 network scanner. Remember the PS is only 50 watts. Not any reserve if 7200 rpm drives have been added. |
Re: CPU upgrade and need power supply..
I know some people have unsoldered and resoldered a matching CPU to the board and it worked....

Thanks for the tip on that site! Just ordered myself a power supply. Hot dog (well, if it works that is)!
Good point on the power situation. Didn't really think about that part. Still, it's tempting :) Thanks all! |
Re: CPU upgrade and need power supply..
Interesting thought about the 486 OD processor...my only thought is that it would be like putting a 2.2L 4 banger in an old 2.0L Chevy Cavalier. It's faster, but still painfully slow :D
