question on conformal coating

i was wondering what would happen if i sprayed the entire front of my motherboard with a conformal coating? would the components heat up/ would heat be an issue?

Re: question on conformal coating

The purpose of conformal coating is to repel water, and water proof a surface.

Yes, it will affect the cooling capacity of anything it's sprayed on. Probably not by a lot, or any amount that's lethal to a mobo, but you should know (i.e. don't spray it over places where you're going to put a heatsink).

Re: question on conformal coating

Anything that dissipates heat like mosfets and CAPs shouldn't be covered but you can cover around it or at the base.
