Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
Hello,
found a Snap 1000 with 10 GB and like to upgrade it. So far so good, these ar the facts : Software Hardware Serial# BIOS 2.1.334 3.1.0 100864 2.1.333 I downloaded OS4 from adaptec but had no success installing it. I called adaptec and was told to have my credit-card ready. i read this forum up and down but did´nt get the right clue. i think, first i need this software 3.4.xxx but i don´t know how far i could get with the snap 1000. what is the max hd size what is the max software-version and the most important question : where do i get this software, e.g. 3.4. from ? any help is highly appreciated. thanxs in advance Torsten torsten.pichler(at)web.de |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
The down load from Adaptec (4.0.860) is a patch. Need a full version first. I would upgrade to 3.4.805 and stop there. It works a little better on the older machines. 805 support HD >137 gig. Most users have stopped at 300 gig, because they are alot cheaper than 400 - 500. As for MFG, stick with Seagate or Hitachi. DO NOT BUY a DRIVE THAT IS EIDE, these cause problems with the older units.

:) Many thanks for the information :)
 The only problem i see now is how to get to the 3.4.805 software ? Is there a link or ist it possible to get it mailed from someone ? and as you mentioned in your post ,the drive has to be ide instead of eide, is it enough to connect the drive to a 40 pin cable to be recognized as ide ? best regards torsten.pichler(at)web.de |

Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
the snapdrive was found by my boss in our so called "museum" :-)
beneath an Epson LQ850 :-) and many other wired stuff. i was told the box was an expirement for backuping logs but never gone in production. so it was "safely" stored in our repository for nearly 5 years. till yesterday :-) thanxs for all your help till yet ! Torsten |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
5 yrs ago 10 gig was considered a large HD.
So you have a New 5yr old 1000, That's a pretty good find. |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
the 10 gigs are for testing only.
it surely is a good find, cause the past weeks i was considering buying some kind of nas-solution. now, it´s for free :-) the next step is the 80 gig drive wich (or "that" ? i don´t know whats right) is currently initiating. a dyndns-setup through my router will follow to enter the snap via internet. for example from work or elsewhere. thats the current state. i hope, the system-led blinking twice and the hd-led lighting stady is the right way ? regards torsten |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
The HD steady, means it accessing the drive. The sys led sounds normal.
Login as admin and check the drive statis. Do you have Assist , and needed Admin manuals? |

good morning ,

Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
It shouldn't take that long. You may need to do a reset to factory settings. Then use assist to set the IP addess. You should then be able to connect and see whats it doing. The reset instructions are in the kiwi section. But you will need a copy of assist to connect to it.

Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
i´m not able to connect via snap-assist.
the network interface goes up, i use a cross-over cable but can´t see the snap. the system blinks twice, the hd led steady. before that, the dd ran through without errors. maybe the drive i use is not the right one ? its a 80 gig maxtore, 7200 RPM but connected with the original 40 pin cable. regards torsten |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
You will need to reset the snap to factory. Then use assist.
You should only use a crossover cable if you are connecting to the snap directly from the PC. If you are not using a router you will have to manually set the IP on your PC. Then use assist to set the Snap into the same subnet. It only takes about 10 minutes to format a 80gig drive. Make sure the jumpers on the drive are set to Master. After a reset and you still can not connect with Assist. It posiable that the OS did not copy corectly from your original drive. |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
my original drive quit duty and left this earth a few minutes ago with white smoke,
so, i´m alone now on my way getting this fine piece of hardware back to life and service. sadly Torsten |
Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
the main problem was, i used a v2 image instead of a v1 !

Re: Confused : Snap 1000 - how far can i get
It's kind of a hit and miss on the 1000. Some use the 2200 image while other use a 1000. It may be related to what version the OS was before it went south.
