snap drive fatal error
 

We have a snap 2200 with 2 drives 80GB each. We were moving and a tech moved the snap drive and when it was set back up we could only see the 1st drive. The 2nd drive had a fatal error. The tech did a backup through windows (which later we found didn't work) He then ran check disk on drive 1 and it got a fatal error during the check disk. Is there anyway to get the data off these drives. Unfortunatly we do not have a backup.

The only way to read the data is through another snap. Snap uses a modified XFS unix file system. If the unit is JBOD or RAID 1 all data is readable. If it was set to RAID 0 all data is lost.

Digital Dolly can do a raw copy. You could take a good drive and copy the data to it. Then put the new drive backin the snap.

The top drive is Disk0 (ID 10000), which is the main boot drive. You will need to copy the first 25 meg of the hd in order to get the OS to a new drive. With out it it want boot.

how do you find out if it is raid 0?

The disk utility section should tell you.

Another way is the capacity of the mounted drive is = to the capacity of each drive added together - overhead ( 80+80=130). The fat table is only on the first drive.

Raid 1 just one drive shows (mirror).
JBOD has 2 seperate mount points.
