Enermax 550W ATX PSU & 156W Peltier

Hi folks...

Do you think this PSU would power a system and a 156W (15.8v 16a) rated peltier?

From the equations Im working on with the principle that there will be roughly a 13amp current draw at 12v from the peltier leaving 11amps for system components (PSU 12v rail rated at 24amps). Would this be pushing it a little? :)

my friend got successful results by using the Enermax 451 psu to power both his system AND the 156W peltier...

he got real good cooling....BUT, he didn't actually have a volt/amp meter hooked up, so there's no telling that it was supplying proper power...except for the results he got with the cooling...

but longterm might have been an issue...will never know, because he fried everything due to condensation, and now is a proponant of aircooling since discovering the Messiah of heatsinks, the MC462, heh

I have the 550 watt and a 156watt peltier.
the 12v rail is @11.3V. (according to the VIA HW monitor)

running 1Ghz@1.1Ghz stock voltage.
6C idle, 34C full load @ 25C ambient.

maze2 waterblock, dangerden cube,150 gph pump.

A larger pump would probably be a good idea.

I have several fans. I'm going to see if I can get the 12v rail back up closer to 12 by removing some fans.

Good Luck with your own set up!

Actually, with that 550W Enermax, you could run two of those 156W peltiers at around 75% max potential (perfect.)
Checky check this, yo:
TB-127-2.0-1.15
QMAX = 156W
IMAX = 16.1A
VMAX = 15.8VDC

12V / 15.8V = 0.75949367088607594936708860759494 == z (76% max potential)
156W • z = 118.48101265822784810126582278481W
16.1A • z = 12.227848101265822784810126582278A

Running at 12VDC:
~ Q = 118.48101265822784810126582278481W
~ I = 12.227848101265822784810126582278A
---------------
12.227848101265822784810126582278A • 2 = 24.45569620253164556962025316454A

well, if you used that PS for solely peltiers, you could also get some 5V peltiers and use the 44Amps on the 5v line.

best I've found is 46 watts @6.3v, 14amps.

there's probably better ones.
