SnapServer 1000

Hello!

I've recently purchased SnapServer 1000 (20Gb HDD, 32Mb RAM). Hardware version 3.1.2. BIOS version 2.1.366. I'm okay to upgrade it to Software version 4.0.860. The only question is will it support drives >137Gb with OS v4?
Thank you forward for useful replies.

PS: I'm choosing between 160Gb and 300Gb HDD's. :dome:

Re: SnapServer 1000

To support large drives >137gig requires software v3.4.805 and greater, and a bios v2 or >. This applies to most Snaps with a few execptions. I don't see very may 1000 through here.

With 32 meg of ram I would not upgrade to version 4, move up to v3.4.805 instead. If you can upgrade the ram to a min of 64 meg it will run v4 without much difficulty.

4.0.860 is just a patch, requires a previously installed v4.

Re: SnapServer 1000

I'm normally upgraded with 20Gb disk to finally 4.0.860. I think speed is okay, but I don't know how to test it. :) Web interface goes well. And my Snap comes with RAM soldered.

Thanks for reply, then I'll buy 300Gb HDD.

I have just one problem on v4 - I can't install JVM at all! All SUPs I have (that comes with v4 and that comes with 860 patch) shows messages smth like "Not compatible with your device or software". I've tried Assist and Web installation - both the same.

Max!

Re: SnapServer 1000

JVM is for the larger Snap Units with a min of 128meg. It requies an minimum of 24meg to even load.

Make sure you get a HD that is not EIDE (ata133). Stick with the std IDE ATA100 and you want have a problem.

You need to test to see if you can access the web interface with out a hd. If so the os is stored in flashram. If not you will need to use dd to copy the boot tracks form your working drive. The instruction for this can be found in the wiki section.

Re: SnapServer 1000

Greetings re3dyb0y! Nice to see ya here. ;)

blue68f100: I've chosen ST3320620A (Seagate). As I can see it's UATA/100. And without HDD I can't connect to my Snap.

So you suggest me to dream about JVM? :) Noone here successfully installed JVM on 32Mb 1000 Snap?

Re: SnapServer 1000

The seagates are a good choice

The least problems have been reported with Seagates

Yeah, dreaming about it would probably be best... I mean, i thought it still let you install it there...

Re: SnapServer 1000

Garmtech, There was one use that checked to see how much free ram he had and hacked the demon to use 8 meg. He wanted to use secure login, a JVM feature. He said it worked but you need a lot of time, very very slow. 1 min to post login screen.

The ST3320620A are the new 7200.10 perpinducular drives, 2 platters, low curent draw. Nice choice.

Re: SnapServer 1000

Sucessfully upgraded! Ta-da-da-daaa! But 300Gb takes whole life to format or check. Really slow. :(

It's sad that SSL/SFTP/SCP isn't normally possible here. And I can't find thread you talk about (8Mb SSL).

Re: SnapServer 1000

Maybe someone knows voltage rating (5V or 12V) for installed 40mm cooler? It's a problem disassemble snap again just to check it. Thank you!

from debug enter "debug memory" from the debug page.

To find it, after you have connected to the admin screen add "/debug" to the address . http://SnapIpaddress/config/debug"
