Need image for Snap 2200

Hi all.

I have a snap 2200 and need the .bin file to load onto the drives so I can get it fired up. I didn't see a link to it in the Wiki and haven't found it posted anywhere when searching the boards. Can someone direct me to where I can get the image file? Thanks.

What happen to the drives?

ahem....well, I just sorta jumped into this before researching it. So one of the drives died and the other was formatted on a windows boxen. So no longer available for an image. I'm trying a dd from the "dead" drive to one of the new ones. Hopefully it will be successful. But this would be much easier with an image I could load onto the new drives. I thought it was kinda weird that everyone says you need the image but no one has ever posted one....

You only need 20-25 meg and you will have it all. A few have got the snaps to boot with as little as 15 meg.

But how exactly do I get that? I tried this, dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=20, but wasn't able to get the snap server to boot. That's with a single new drive as master on the IDE1. Then I read that you don't need the bs and count options. So that's what I'm trying now.

If the new was on the master ide you just copied the new to the snap drive wiping it out. if = input file or source, of = Output file or destination.
what did the dmesg|grep hd display.
normaly is:
hda = pri master
hdb = pri slave
hdc = sec master
hdd = sec slave

Re: Need image for Snap 2200

Sorry. Snap drive was master and new drive was slave. So I copied from hda to hdb. But, this is also the drive that was giving errors. So that might be an issue.... And the good snap drive is no go since I formatted it. Why would they load the OS on firmware and the drive??!?! Since it was an appliance I thought it would all be firmware... Damn. Hindsight and all.....

How much did it copy? Did you remember to reset the jumper to master?

The older models had the OS in flashram. It more expensive to do it that way, so they use a std pc type bootloader/BIOS now.

Hindsight .... What a wonderfull thing :D

Re: Need image for Snap 2200

Yes, I set the jumpers correctly. The computer detected both fine. I'm not sure how much it copied. dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/hdb bs=1024k count=20 took a bit and then the cursor came back. So I powered the pc down, changed the jumper to master and put it in the snap server on IDE1. Nothing on IDE2. But at startup the system and disk lights were blinking in sync, which I've read is an error. Also, nothing in DHCP logs saying it received an IP address. Right now doing another dd without bs and count options. It is taking a really long time (I hope it is still going, cursor just blinking but not at command line yet).

With out the options you will copy the whole drive. You only need 25 meg. to recover.

Were you in raid 0 when the failure accoured?

Re: Need image for Snap 2200

No, it was configured as JBOD. I figured it would copy the entire drive without the options. But since with options didn't work, I thought I'd give it a shot.
