GuardianOS help
I need to bring my Quantum Guardian 14000 back online.. The ProFTPd version that comes with OS v2.3 is vulnerable to a buffer overflow attack and allowed a group of hackers to compromise my Guardian. The box is isolated in one of my DMZs and is quite safe from causing more harm on my home network. After checking out my new treasure trove of software donated by the group of hackers, I will need to wipe the box. I am well aware of how to rebuild the box from scratch since I knew many of the members of the Engineering design team for this product (I used to work for Quantum). This process will be difficult without a newer image file. (hint hint)
I think you can figure out what I am looking for.. PM me if you can help.. ps. Yes I am aware of blah blah blah.. |
Re: GuardianOS help
Sorry man ,
I think, depending on the age, some users a while back were able to get v2.6 free from them. They just had to beggg. But since Adaptec took them over good luck on that. The have a bad attitude toward clients/users of there equipment. Unless you want to pay them to be a bigger prick. We just started seeing these newer unit about 9 months. So we are still learing about them. Would love to have one to play with. Too rich for my pockets. |
Re: GuardianOS help
yeah.. I've run into that.. You'd think that they would give a little especially to someone that help give them such a great product. I am going to pursue putting a custom linux image on one of mine ( i have 3; 2 retail, 1 engineering unit). It's not rocket science to build something once the base OS is working. I'm quite technical and may actually pull this off.. :cD
anyone got an old image laying around? |
Re: GuardianOS help
There was a guy here recently that said something about an image he had and needed to port over to his hard-drive-less unit. Maybe you two cook hook up and lend each other an assist? Just an idea...
Blue, so what do you think it is going to take to get this guy to stick around here? If he used to work for Quantum, he may have some of the answers we been trying to get here and there (for the SNAP and Guardian units). Might be good thing, and we can always use another good steady member too... :D |
Re: GuardianOS help
Friends with friends in high places is always good
If you can get hold of techincal documentation or other similar stuff, it all helps! Well, that or some test units for the main helpers :D ^_^ |
Re: GuardianOS help
You would think a tech would have the latest and greatest. May be a Hardware Eng. Wonder if he's a casuality of the buy-out?
sopsmattw, A few question for you to help expand my knowledge on the Guardian OS. The Guardian OS is new to us. There are alot of smilarities between the Snap OS and Guardian OS. But a lot differece to. We have found the limits on the Snap OS and looking for the limits on the Guardian OS. 1. How does the factory load the bare drives? 2. Are there restricitons placed on drive capacity? 3. Does the OS restrict to "as built" spec? ......So a 320gig can not be bumped to a 640gig. |
