The OS is stored in flashram. Install the drives, then set back and watch all of the activity. After 10 min you will be able to connect and check on drive status. Or just wait till the disk led goes out.

*nods* the disk light will flutter constantly while the drives are being formatted. Wait till that stopps and then attempt to connect. My 300gb drive took about 8 minutes or so to format yesterday in my 1100.

Huh...I thought that the 4000 stored the OS on the disk. Learned something new today!

Nope, it's in flashram. However, until he reinstalls the OS, he is going to find that "part" of the OS is missing, that "is" kept on the HD (just like I bet a 4100 does also). This "missing" part is the help files and only Quantum/Adaptec knows what else...

Re: need help with snapserver 4000

Absolutely correct, help is missing. Now i'm dealing with not seeing all the space - only 360 gb or so available out of 4 ea. 160 gb disks. I guess i need to upgrade to at least 3.xx. Helping hand anyone? Adaptec would rather take whole arm and maybe leg

Re: need help with snapserver 4000

version 3.4 didn't help much - SNAPpy reported 160gb disks as 120. Good people helped with 4.xx, will try tomorrow

Re: need help with snapserver 4000

Depends on which version of OS 3 you're using. 3.4.805 is the minimum to support disks larger than 137gb. If you're using 3.4.803 or so it won't show you all your space. Also, what RAID configuration are you running? 5?

Re: need help with snapserver 4000

:D upgraded to 4.xx, still disk size shown as 128.470. removed two drives, fdisk /mbr each at the time in PC, connected back to SNAPpy, now it's formatting and transferring files from two remaining disks, size is 155.260.
after it's done will fdisk remaining two and will be happy for a change.
Thanks to all who helped:D

If you cannot do it from the web interface then you probably need the Assist utility. If you haven't gotten it by the time i get home tonight i'll try to get a copy of it for you. IT's on the origonal CD's that came with the server.

Shane,
yeah I dont have the assist utility as I do not have the original cd's for the unit. If you could send them my way I would appreciate it. I will PM you a FTP to send the files to.

It is recomended to use the built in web interface for all updates past v2. The OS update is located under "server options". You will be required to login as admin to do any updates. It ask for the file, just browse to the .sup file and you will be good to go.

Adaptec will send you assist on request, It's a free utility. It generaly comes with all sup update files.
I will send it to your, it's not very large.
