Unerase Folder?
Does anyone know how to unerase and recover a folder on a snap server 2200?

Re: Unerase Folder?
To my knowledge there is not one.

Re: Unerase Folder?
Could the drive be removed and put into a linux or freebsd machine and recovered that way?

Re: Unerase Folder?
It's a proprietary file system. BSD can copy it in a RAW mode but it cannot mount it. IT's gone. Might as well put the 2200 in a box and sell it to me :)

Re: Unerase Folder?
Do you think Adaptec tech support might recover the drive for a charge?

Re: Unerase Folder?
The unix file system it self does not have a trash can. That is a feature that the windows shell adds.
Adaptec would be be glad to take you money, and then tell you they can't help you. But you can try. You might do some research on how the XFS file system handles file/folder entrys. You may find some one that wrote a utility to do just that. If you are dead set on recovering the file, you do not want to be using the snap. Any activity could easly over write the space. |
Re: Unerase Folder?
That particular snap drive has been taken out of service and off the network until, I can figure out how to recover the data. I have heard of places that claim that they can recover ANY data from a harddrive.
But from what I understand so far is that the OS is free BSD or Unix, using a file system called XFS? Does this sound correct? |
Re: Unerase Folder?
FreeBSD is what the Snap OS is built on. They have used XFS since V2. But reports are that it may be a modified version. I think it was just the latest release of the new file structure when OS V2 was released.

Re: Unerase Folder?
I think the data recovery services specialize in getting data off of drives that have failed, not stuff that people have deleted. But at that point, it's probably mostly Windows/MacOS stuff they work with. and probably wouldnt want to touch this XFS file system. If this is your boot drive the Snap won't work without it. If you want to roll the dice and spend a LOT of money with a recovery service be my guest.
I think you should just cut your losses and be more careful about what you delete in the future, or, just sell me the Snap server minus the drives. Shane |
