Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Hi there.
I'm about to du the mod ( http://www.systemcooling.com/mcp350_mod-01.html ) on my Laing but before I get to it I'm wondering if it is OK to mount the pump upside down kinda like this http://www.alvasoft.net/hardware/sn45g/shuttle_3.jpg http://members.torquecentral.com/mba...sn95g5/014.jpg I wanna make sure before I do the mod becuz othervise the mod would be useless for me :( Regards Jonas |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
I would not as the impeller will rest against the casing until the motor starts and pulls it down on to the ceramic bearing. Here is a picture of mine...

Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
I don't think there would be any problem, the impeller always rests on the ceramic ball because of the strong magnetism, if anything mounting upside down might help.

Ok thanks alot :)

Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
If the impeller pulls down at all it can't be resting fully on the bearing.
|
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
What gets me is you talk about the impellar not resting correctly on the bearing and then you have the pump sitting on its side. Well if it is going to move towards the top turned upside down, then it is perfect to reason that the impellar is sliding to the side of the chamber when you have the pump on its side. If people have had no problems with longevity with the pump on its side then it shouldn't have any problems with the pump upside down.

There are a lot of DDC users who run their pumps upside-down. I have seen 0 issues reported. |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Thanks for all answers :)
But I'm going to use it mounted sideways instead.. Best regards |

Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Bringing this thread back.. In the manual it shows that it cant be mounted upside down or with the in/outtake downwards.. But I would REALLY like to mount it with the "out pipe" downwards and the "in pipe" will be modded for more performance..
I hope you guys understand me and can help me out here.. Thnx alot /Jonas |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Well, you’d be playing 100% against gravity which isn’t too nice. And the DDC gets damaged if water doesn’t get to it, I’d say it’s possible but not safe.
On a personal note, I wouldn’t go with the top inlet. I mean, having a bit more performance is always nice, but if some small marginal gain gives you trouble, why bother? |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
The thing is that the pump will be pretty much in the bottom of the case, it will go from rad -> pump -> cpu and the radiator has it fittings higer then the pumps inlet & outlet..
I tought that it shouldnt be any problem if I did the mod, wich is also a most if I'm gonna mount the pump the way i want to.. If I put it like this, why cant you mount the pump with the inlet and outlet facing downwards? |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Anyone that knows?
|
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
because the pump should never be run dry, if the in/outlets are facing down....
|
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Well, only the outlet is facing down.. The inlet is in 90 degree angle from the outlet.. and it is sucking in water from a radiator that is higher up then the pump so i dont see how it could run dry then.. Please educate me if Im wrong..
|
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Oh, hey, I thought the inlet was facing down. If it's like you say, then it's probably perfect, maybe better than the typical mount. Go for it :)
|
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Sounds perfect :)
Thnx alot guys.. |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
The pump can be mounted like in the picture. Swiftech uses that way like the post said.
As long as inlet is not face downward you should be okay. Im assuming the main reason is so the pump doesn't run dry and prevent trapping air bubbles. The outlet can face downward anytime but in the case of the DDC they would point in same direction |

Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Ok, I'm not that good at understanding and reading english..
But what youre saying is that it is "mountable" in any way, as long as the inlet isnt facing down? The reason I want to do this is that Iam gonna mount the pump directly to the CPU block, http://www.ironmods.com/ImagePosting...rnet_12_09.jpg The pic is from SuAsDu's project called "Super Hornet" Migueld; yes, thats correct.. |
Re: Ok to use Laing DDc upside down?
Hey, just saw this two pics so I got my hope up :D Just to let you guys know..
