Before someone asks, no, I do not work for them or have any relations there... I just wanted to pass on this info for those who may not already know and may be in need. (like some of the guys here recently who need new main boards for their 4100's)

There is a place in Oregon called Northwest Technical who bought up a lot of SNAP Server parts and so forth back when Quantum sold out. These guys have a lot of hard to get part, do service, and even sell complete units and kits. Their website is

Now just because you don't see it don't mean they don't have it. If you need it and it is not on their list, CALL THEM. They have a lot of parts for the very SNAP servers we see here on the forum 1000, 1100, 2000, 2200, 4000, and 4100. And as I said above, they also do some servicing.

As an example, some of you may know I been looking for power supplies for a couple SNAP 4000 units. It was not on their list. I called, they had one they were willing to part with (I still need 1 more). They also informed me that this is a common problem with 4000 units (beware 4000 owners, it's coming to you maybe). With no new resources for these power supplies, they are working on a new power supply kit (they have prototypes now) they will be selling in the near future. From the sounds of it, these are going to be better than original units. So those of you who have SNAP 4000 units, watch your power supplies, and if one goes bad, this may be a good source in the near future.

Yep, that was who i contacted, oddly enough through their ebay store. I was going to try to pick up 2 for you. they told me they wouldnt sell any and didnt even have enough for their chassis that they had. I even tried to purchase an entire 4000 minus drives.

Trust me, it took some SERIOUS talking to get even the one out of them. And to be honest, I do not even know if I am getting a 4000 Power Supply or one of their prototypes they are going to sell for the 4000. We shall see...

Any 3rd party thing will work fine, as long as the polarity is correct on the snap plug end

And then the voltage has to be correct

If the Wattage is more than you need, then thats fine....



I went through a lot of this when i was looking for mine

I ordered one from SnapAppliance in the US when i got OS v4, and had to chase them to find out that they couldnt ship them from the US to the UK for whatever stupid reason

But their silly system let be buy it...


I then contacted snap appliance uk, and the snap sales guy in the UK. The best i got, is we can order one from the US for you, but we have no idea on the lead time, and i believe they said at the time, that they had been waiting over a month for a couple of other power supplies


This wasnt an option for me

So i spent time looking around to what was avaliable, and found this company, and the wide range of products they had

I rang up, and told them i needed a 12V DC PSU etc etc, and was told how much, sent a cheque off, and had the thing by the end of the week!

You could build your own harness with a PS off the self if it came down to that. It just wouldn't find the chassis.

You could mod a shuttle XPC power supply, 250watt and it would fit. you can get them on ebay for ~$50 i think,.

Well, its just a faff with it being to a radial plug.....

getting the PSU into the case isn't the problem, it's getting it to connect up to that mainboard on the SNAP. Your best bet would be to cut as much as you can off of the old one and just solder wires together, If you can figure out which ones are 12v, 5v, grounds, etc, I didnt take a hard enough look to remember if they were the sandard yellow,, red, and blacks im used to with ATX stuff. But o nthe mainboard connectors for an ATX motherboard there are more than are on the snap server. *shrugs* it'll be tough.

I would not be to difficult, since his is still working. He just need to measure the output on each wire. Make a note weather it is switched or not. The Molex connectors used are common and are not to difficult to get a hold of.
