Snap 2000 frustrations
Hi all. Have owned a Snap 2000 for a couple of years now with absolutely no problems whatsoever (probably just invoked some ancient NAS curse by saying that!). But after reading all the excellent info on this site, I have finally decided to upgrade it with more memory and bigger drives. Current info is:
Software: 3.1.603(US) Hardware: 2.0.0 Serial: 48xxx BIOS: 2.0.252 RAM: 64MB Built: Apr 5 2001 Drives: 2 x 10GB Quantums First step was obviously the system software. I had the necessary sup file (snap_sys_34805.sup), so went and ran Snap Assist (v2.2.393) from the v2.2 CD that came with the Snap. All I keep getting is this message: 'Unable to connect with the server.' This is strange, as I have no problems connecting to it and transferring files via both web and Network Neighborhood on a Win 98se machine and also via web and Finder on 2 Mac OSX.4 machines. Anyhow, I decided to press ahead to try and access the sup file. That resulted in this message: 'This file is not a valid upgrade file.' Has anyone had or seen these sort of problems before? My thinking is that Snap Assist 2.2 can't talk to the server now as it is running v3.1 system. Add to that, I am also wondering if the newer sup file needs a newer version of Snap Assist to work. Hoping that someone out there has some ideas or tips on this one and can point me in the right direction. As I said, it performs well on my home network, accessed daily by different OS's. It just doesn't want me to 'play with it'. regards... Steve (swils@optushome.com.au - yes, 'downunder') |
Re: Snap 2000 frustrations
You need a newer version od assist for v3. The new sup file should have included one. On some version 3+, adaptec added upgraed to the admin section of the web interface. If yours have it. It is recomended to do the upgrade throgh it. Assist is free upon request from adaptec.

Re: Snap 2000 frustrations
Thanks for confirming my thoughts. The 3.4.805 sup file I had didn't come with an updated version of Snap Assist, and the 3.1.603 installed on the unit didn't support updates.
After reading your msg last night, I went back to Adaptec's site for another look around. The only software they had available was 4.0.860 Full Install, but that required an 'entitlement' to download. I did find the 4.0.860 update in the 'ASK' area, so downloaded that, and ran the version of Snap Assist that came with it - it worked! I could access my server. So, I selected update, browsed to the 3.4.8.5 sup file and away it went. I'm now at 3.4.805, and am about to go hunting for ram and BIG hard drives. Thanks again. I'm now going back to play some more... :D |
Re: Snap 2000 frustrations
I know it will support at least the seagate 400gb drives, I just installed 2 of them last night in my 2000.
