NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Ok, I'm addicted. But beyond that im going to work up a little more of a comprehensive breakdown of the whole snap lineup. I've got a few which are in my signiture but there are still a few popular models that i dont have, Especially the 4100 and 2200. If any of you guys have a spare laying around shoot me a PM..

Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
What? Are you too good for the OS on the drive people? :dome:
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Na, already have one of those. FINALLY got my Meridian unit in. Just threw in 2x80's Waiting for them to finish formatting.
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
You are going to have quite a selection of Snap servers when you finish. I'm kinda like you. It's easier to trouble shoot problems when you have the same equipment. Being all Snap OS, you will learn each units twerks.
Just got my 4500 up to night. In the process of building my first Raid 5 array. Then the fun begins when I start failing drives, and power failures. :) |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
I actually have a Snap 2200 that I might be interested in selling you if the price is right.
You can see the upgrades I have made to the unit in my sig. The unit operates perfectly. I am going to be moving to a Buffalo Terastation soon and would love to sell the SNAP server to someone who will appreciate it. Shoot me an email and let me know. |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
BTW Shane, You do know I am going to try to grab that 4000 to deal with my current power supply issue right? You know the one I mean, lol... :D

Cool on the 2200. I see no reason why he won't. I tried to get you a 4100 today, but someone outbid me at the last moment and I was trying to get it cheap for ya. I also saw you put a declined offer on a Powervault 715N. I been wondering about those. I wonder if they (715N/725N/745N) will run the Guardian OS? I would bet they won't do the SNAP OS like the 705N does. |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
the 715/725 uses Windows 2000 Storage server
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
I think I can hold on to it.
I was actually hoping to hold off for a month or 2. Because I need time before I move to my new position and get a terastation, for home testing of course :dome: |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Ok, Just let me know when you're ready to get rid of it.
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Hey Shane, we are all going to be bidding against each other now me thinks. Cianwill has bid on that 4000 now too...
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
I dont think he cares. Im not going to bid on it.
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Well, I am, as long as it does not go through the roof... I need that damn thing because of that $*#@$ power supply.
|
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Well looks like that 2200 deal isn't happening anytime soon. He is waiting till he has a replacement for it. So, If anybody sles has a working 2200 then im all ears.

Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
A quick question. What is the difference between a 2200 and 2000? OS stored in Flash rom? I think??
Wouldn't they perform nearly the same? Curious, SM |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
about the only similaroty is that they both have 2 drives.
The 2000 has the OS stored in Flash Rom. The 2200's is on the 1'st hard drive. Different form factor. Different and newer motherboard in the 2200 with a little faster IDE interface. (ATA100 over ATA66) The 2000's are FAR easier to upgrade and they're great machines. I've got 2 of them. I just want a 2200 as well. Shane |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
The 2200 will blow the socks off a 2000. It has a decicated IDE ATA100 contollers. Where the 2000 only has a single (shared) ATA 33 IDE controller. My test showed the 2000 was maxed out at 1.8M/sec. Where the 2200 was around 4M/sec. These were write speeds, both in RAID 1. Both are good machines, ideal for home use. The 2000 with flashram will setup bare drives. Where the 2200 requires a image file. Both store the OS on BOTH drives if in RAID 1.

Actually in my testing of the 2000 and the 2200 I found the 2000 to go around 1.8 mb and the 2200 would operate around 15-20 mb sustained. |
Re: NEED More Snap Servers!!!
Back on topic, Need one.
