NO Snap2200.bin
I hope some one can help; this is a cool site with a lot of support. So I like most got an old Snap server 2200 with out any hard drives. L As I see it, no disks, no OS, no boot.
I got a Seagate 80Gig to start out with; I got SnapOS_4_0_860_upg.exe from Craptech’s support site. (wish they never bought out Snap Appliance) L The exe unzipped Assist.EXE, Snap_4_x.sup (30megs), snap_jvm.sup (4megs), and snap_ServerSync.sup (160K) So I tried just for fun renaming Snap_4_x.sup (30megs) to Snap2200.bin and I have a Suse Linux computer and ran “dd if=/mnt/snap##00.bin of=/dev/hdb” (adjusted for my computer) loaded on the Seagate 80Gig (Worked very well) then fired up in my Snap 2200…… No Luck L it just sits and blinks. Assist.EXE cannot find and my DHCP server is not getting anything. Blinks are “System” (heartbeat every 2 sec) “Link” (on solid) “Net” (blink’s like it has a little network traffic) “Disk” (Double blink with heartbeat every 2 sec) I think I need to get my hands on Snap2200.bin to make what is a paperweight work again. I would love to upgrade to some larger drives but I would like to see it working before I shell out for some big disks. Can anyone point me the right way? Thanks, Steve (Myperilingquest) |
Re: NO Snap2200.bin
You are correct. you need the 2200.bin. Nothing short of that will get your system up and running, Unless you buy a drive from Adaptec with the OS already loaded. And that is NOT a cost effective solution.
Wish i could find a barebones 2200 with no drives. Seems like everybody else can find them except me. Shane |
Re: NO Snap2200.bin
Just looking for the Snap2200.bin file, or a way to make the Snap_4_x.sup file into a bin file. I hear some people have used some other bin file to get it running then pushed the upgrade. If anyone has any info please PM me or shoot me an email at Gmail (Same user name)

Re: NO Snap2200.bin
That 4.0.860 file you got off the adaptec website is an upgrade only OS. You need a full version...

Re: NO Snap2200.bin
Even if you find a bin file, you will need to reinstall the software to correct for any missing files. The full version (830, or 855) is the only one that has all files, sup, JVM, help.. So the 860 patch would not help you in restoring the files.
Your best bet would be to find another user willing to install your drive in their 2200, or copy the boot trackes for you. |
Re: NO Snap2200.bin
I keep trying the Adaptec web site for the full version OS but no luck. My SN is out of date and I'm running out of options. I don't know why Adaptec must make it so hard to get this file. It's like a computer with out the drivers, just these drivers are an OS and everyone flips out about a copy or a download. So sad to see a snap as big paper weight. The file quest must go on......
PS: Anyone else got this problem with out access to a 2nd Snap? |
Re: NO Snap2200.bin
Thanks blue68f100, I thought i could just over lay the upgrade. So I guess I really need to find someone with or find another Snap2200 to make this thing work.

Re: NO Snap2200.bin
It would be nice to back up of a full copy of this OS so if the disks go bad you can restore from backup. I would love to just get the thing working again even if it did not have all the files again if anyone has anything that would help shoot me an email at Gmail (Same user name)

Re: NO Snap2200.bin
The reload is just precautionary. There has been some reports of missing files. But have not been confirmed.

I am confirming because I have swapped out drives (all of them at once) on the 4000 with OS 3.4.805, 3.4.807, 4.0.830, and 4.0.860. In each case, the OS and settings remain intact (because it is in Flashram), but the help files and any OS extensions you might have (like JVM) dissappear. There might be even more missing, but I never looked close enough beyond this. |
