Way to the ultimate CPU block?
 

Hiya..
I was wondering what the perfect block (s478) would be like..
I suppose it should have jets.. But how large should the jets be? And the holes it flows into?
The reson is that I am about to make a block full free in a Dynamyte 4500 :evilaugh:
Is the best one to copy Swiftech Storm or should i do anything else?
Lots of questionmarks as you can see :)
I'd be glad if you guys can give me as much tips as possible..

I would assume that the design of the storm block is proprietary.
As for information on the storm block, seek out posts by cathar...but then he may be looking for you soon enough.

What are you planning the rest of your loop?

In all honesty--with modern IHSed CPU's--differences between the absolute best performing waterblock and a modestly performing waterblock are difficult to tell.

Unless you have a laboratory full of equipment just waiting to be used and a couple of weeks of spare time.

Your choice of pump, and the total resistance of your water loop, will be the biggest factors in what would be the best performing waterblock.

However, you will notice a bigger improvement if you obsess over your radiator rather than your waterblock.

Someone else will be able to help you with the ideal dimensions for "the best" waterblock.

I got: 1 Danger Den heatercore, 1 BIX, 1 DDC (will be fitted with a modded topp), 1/2" tubing, no gpu block yet cuz i dunno wich one will fit (msi nx6600gt agp)
The reason I got two single radiators is that i got a Shuttle so the best was two 1x120 rads.. Loop will be -> Heatercore -> (fillport) -> DDC -> CPU -> BIX -> GPU -> Heatercore..

Why are you water cooling this?

The money you spend on superior cooling--particularly a custom waterblock--could be better spent on more powerful computing hardware.

Each to his own I guess....


The DDC will work fine and should have lots of spare head pressure.

You could use something like, as examples, a Fusion or a Storm.
You could go for low flow resistance, as examples, an Apogee GT or a MCW-6002*.

*If you can find them. I think lipton may still have one available. I have two and am tempted to buy a third as it is my favorite water block.


What fans were you planing on using?

That will have a larger effect more than anything else at this stage of planing.

Some information about radiator performance with different flow rate and/or fan power/speed.

You should decide what you are willing to live with as far as noise and performance then use that to purchase your fans accordingly.

Hehe, yeah, why you can ask :p
First of I'm gonna buy a c2d setup when I can afford it, wich will take a while, and then move over the hardware to my "pimped" case :p
I already got all the watercooling thingys exept the blocks.. And just to point it out again, I get to do a block for free..

The fans Im planing of using are a couple of Yate Loon fans..

Personally I think you may want to look into a pin fin design or diamond pin design and try to build upon that unless you try some new spin on the jet idea.
