Both drives in RAID 1 set failed!?

I had several power outages Saturday and my UPS did not work as expected. Because of that, it seems I've lost two drives from the same RAID 1 set. Hard to believe!!... I've never lost one drive..... and that's why I am writing this post.
I login to the server and attempt a repair. It fails and the server error log gives these errors:
File System : Failed to resynchronize logical set 50000, error -1 Disk 50000
Mirror 2/26/2007 2:32:51 PM
E File System Check : FSCK fatal error = 27 Disk 50008
Mirror 2/26/2007 2:15:11 PM
E File System Check : Partially allocated inode I=5223929 Disk 50008
Mirror 2/26/2007 2:15:11 PM

Current configuration:
- OS Version: 3.4.805
- Hardware: 2.2.1
- Server: 512476
- BIOS: 2.4.437

I've attempted this several times. The other RAID 1 set has a problem too but I can still get access to my data. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have spent most of the day reveiwing the posts here but have been unable to see any similar problems.

As a additional thought... since this may problem may be an opportiunity to upgrade this server I'd like to review the 4100's capabilities for upgrading:
- No disks larger that 120GB
- Current configuration would support larger drives

Some posts imply that it is as easy as installing the larger drives and the OS will discover the drives. Is that correct.

Any helpful comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Both drives in RAID 1 set failed!?

Actually, from the log, it only looks like one drive has failed, not both. I'll let someone a little more familiar with the error messages double check me on that though. I'm not really sure why you can't get to your data from what you have posted. Can you post your entire boot up/error log?

As to the 4100's capabilities, you CAN use 160GB drives, but you will only get 137GB out of them, the limit of the OS. You will be waisting some space, but typically 160GB drives aren't any more expensive than 120's and you are getting an extra 17GB per drive that way.

If you want to upgrade your drives, you need to BACK UP EVERYTHING first, and then pull ALL the drives. If you have a RAID set of 80 GB drives and install a new drive, the snap will format the new drive as 80 GB regardless of its actual capacity. If you pull all the drives then it will format the new drives to their full capacity as the OS is stored on flashram. If you are missing the help files after the new drives have been formated, you would have to do a full OS reinstall from a disk. Not a big deal to not have the help files though, the snap works fine without them...

How much RAM do you have in this 4100? If you only have 64MB, it would be as good a time as any to bump it up to 128MB, or even 256. Do this before you upgrade the hard drives and create your new RAID set, however, as the snap will use your increased RAM more efficiently if it sees more RAM before it creates the new RAID set.

Re: Both drives in RAID 1 set failed!?

Before you do anything backup all your data.
Ok you have a 4100 with 2 x raid 1 setup. With a bad hd, 50008. Should be drive 2, is the led on the front indicating a fault?

I need you to run "co de info" from debug. (Need to look at some drive info.)
Have you every upgraded the OS?
Have you checked to see if your MB has been repaired? (Sticky at the top of the thread.) If yours came as a 320gig the repairs should have been done at the factory.

All of these can effect data integerity.
