Daylight Savings Change?

Not sure if anyone has already asked this. I did a quick search and could not find anything.

What impact, if any, does the new time change have on snap servers.

We are currently running a SNAP 4000 with OS 4.0.860 tied into 2k3 AD.

thanks,

Here is Adaptec position: http://www.snapserver.com/Landing/07...ht/Index.shtml

Hope this helps. It does not effect me, I will just suspend my backup for a week. If I recall I saw a patch come through for my pc's. So your AD2003 should be find if you are up todate with patches.

Re: Daylight Savings Change?

yes there position is to just ignore it and change all your backup jobs.

We do not run any we simply use the machine as a storage bin. So no worries there.

You said about our AD environment being patched will lead to the SNAP server being ok. My AD is already patched and set so I assume the SNAP server with AD integration pulls its time info from AD?

thanks,

thanks,

AD and Snap should use UTC for communication and authentication. This is why they don't want you to change the time on your snap server. In theory, the snap server should be fine except backups will be an hour off.

We'll see what happens, won't we? ;)

Dear GAWD.... Indiana just gets on daylight savings and now they go and change it. I am so tired of this I can't even tell you all....

I was told that our snaps would sync to the time of our domain but this has not been the case. What are other people experiencing and does anyone know what we should be doing?

I don't believe the Snap Server time synchronizes with AD or Domains. You just manually set the time and as long as it's within 5 minutes of your domain time, then everything is cool.

Remember, with the new DST in effect from March 11th - March 31st, your snap server will be off by an hour during that time frame. Do not change the time as this will make the UTC different from your domain.

Re: Daylight Savings Change?

you can also sync it to a SNTP server and set the update frequency (default once per day)

Hmmm, I assume you must use the debug screen to configure it then. I just jumped into the debug section and I see SNTP as an option in there, but not in the web interface?

http://snapserver/config/debug

config sntp ip ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd sets time server IP Address, enable SNTP
disable - disable SNTP
info - displays SNTP information
freq - update time interval in seconds
Guess what I'll be setting. :D

Interesting. What does Snap define as a SNTP server - I run Linux NTPD at work which most devices use to sync too, so I guess that is no good?

Both of mine are now set to sync with my domain controller.

Re: Daylight Savings Change?

OK, I set up the five snap 4100's at work to use my Linux NTPD server as time source - works very well.

Strange thing right after debug/config'ing in the logs (error) all servers reported an error they couldn't sync (time difference greater than 2 secs.) but then it reports 'success' and there on after they are all correct and sync as you would expect. Incidently, I set the 'freq' to twice a day (43200 secs.)

Great tip! Thanks.

Nick
