What is the best GeForce3 card to buy?

Oh, BTW, if you can wait a little longer, I have a very good "notion" that the NV25 (current GeForce3 is NV20) will be out sometime in September (or a little later.)
Maybe this is nVidia's competition for ATI's new Radion (or whatever they'll call it.)

GeForce3 is a nVidias chipset used on all the boards, whether it's Visiontek, Leadtek, Hercules, Asus or whatever ...

The price difference will be only paid for:
1) the brand name of a certain company
2) Some useless additional software, which is normally a trial versions of games, etc..
3) Different paints and photoshots they put on the retail boxes.


Other than that all the boards have the same GF3 chipset, similar cooling system (I haven't notices any difference after testing Hercules, Visiontek and Leadtek GF3s), and same amount of memory at the present time.

Regarding new nVidia N25 chipset, that's true that it will be out by the end of fall somewhere.
Yet it will not be mch different from the current NV20 chipset.

The biggest step was already done by implementing GF3 (comparing to GF2 ultra and any other chip on th market today),

There certainly is more to a card than its chipset, Although the chipset is the predominant factor in performance and features. Other factors such as 2d image quality, VIVO and other I/O related options, as well as price and quality are influenced by the manufacturer. As much time as I spend scouring the web for tech goodness 2d quality is certainly a factor for me. When looking at cards based on the same chipset 2d quality is all about the manufacturer. the quality and layout of filtering circuitry is a major determinant of 2d quality.

Right now given the information on Anandtech I'd have to say the Gainward Geforce3 is my personal choice. It has the highest rated 2d quality of all the bunch.(they claim its on par with the radeon which I'd say is quite a feat). It's price is extremely competitive especially if your looking for VIVO functions. considering you can grab Gainwairds card with VIVO and DVI options for what others are selling the plain jane geforce3 cards for.

NV25 will indeed be out in late September, but it is not intended as competition for the Radeon. The GeForce2 is very solid competition for the Radeon, and the GeForce3 completely blows it away. Of course I am talking on terms of pure 3D power.

You might want to wait simply because the price of the GF3 will go down when the new chip comes out.

Here is an article on HardOCP, Asus Geforce 3, it is able to be overclocked to 220/545 with stock heatsink, they said it probably could have done higher but they used thier drivers and the OC that they packaged with it only goes to 220/550, here is a link,
