Open file locks on 4000 and 2100
Hi all. I am having a problem with some XP users opening/editing/saving files in a network share on a snap 4000 (4000 series SW:3.4.805 (US) HW:2.0.1 BIOS:2.0.282) and a 2100 (2000 series SW:4.0.860 (US) HW:2.0.4 BIOS:4.0.855).
Users can open a Word document or Excel spreadsheet and make edits etc. When they try close and save the file, they receive an error saying the file is in use and cannot be saved. Looking at open files on the Snap, they are the only user accessing the files. They can save locally. They cannot reopen the file on the share. Only a reboot of the snap clears up the locks and allows them to access again and save. Things run fine for a couple days and then it begins to creep up again. This only affects XP users. Win2k users have not been affected. It feels like a communication breakdown where the Snap no longer recognizes the user accessing the files. Any direction would be appreciated. I am not sure if this is a Snap Config or an XP networking problem. |

What are your advanced microsoft settings?
Generally 2k, NT, XP use the same locking service. |

This is a bug with the MS 'shared' option (especially in Excel). Basically the advice is 'DO NOT USE IT'. It doesn't work right.
