Snap 4100 Help
I inherited a snap 4100 from a friend, he said it was working, i noticed the cpu fan had stopped spinning so i changed it, he gave it to me with no drives in so i have found 2 lying around, i have downloaded the dell assist.exe to set it up, my problem is the system boots, each of the drive led's go down in sequence then the system light flashes twice quickly every second, and i cant locate it via the assist, is it because i only have 2 drives in? they are setup as masters. Any help would be appeciated.

Re: Snap 4100 Help
What is the capacity on the drives? I cannot remember 100% but i BELIEVE the 4100 stores the OS on flashram like the 4000. But if it doesnt then that is your problem. And if so you'll need a drive image to fix it.

Re: Snap 4100 Help
Sys LED blinking quickly twice is normal for startup, performing a disk check. It should do this till it comes on line. If they drives are freshly installed give the unit 10 min to install the OS and start the formatting of the drives. After about 10 min you should be able to connect to the server and complete the setup.
Triple flashing reflects disk activity, System is shutting down. |
Re: Snap 4100 Help
The CPU fan is temp controlled...
Do a full (4 flash) hard reset (see the FAQs) The drives need to be formatted and setup (by the system). Give it about 10 to 15 minutes, then try finding it with assist. |
Re: Snap 4100 Help
I dont get any disk activity lights whilst the system light is flashing, as in dirsk one and 2, i thought that perhaps whilst it is formatting it would light the disks access lights up, also i noticed the network light flashes an awful lot, is this normal?

Re: Snap 4100 Help
Are you able to connect to the server?
Ok, is this a Snap or a Dell? if a Dell a flag need to be changed before you can install the Snap OS. If you can connect, go to the admin page (http://ipaddress) and click on the snap appliance logo. It should give you a popup with the HW & SW vitals. Please post. If you can not get on line remove the HD's. and boot the snap. then try connecting to the admin page. |
Re: Snap 4100 Help
I love the easy ability to swap hard drives on the flashram units. But i guess the only one that it's a REAL pain to swap drives in is the 1100 since it's a single disk unit. on the 2200 you can get away with swapping one at a time and booting to let the OS move over onto the new drive.
If you get tired of that 4100 you can probably get a handsome ammount for it on ebay. They seem to bring an abnormally high price. Shane |
