Snap 1000 Replacement Motherboard
 

I purchased a replacement motherboard for a 1000 I have from Northwest Technical (the original board would not see the network). I know it is the correct part, it has the same part number as the old board, even one revision older. But now when I check the server info, it says it's a 2000 series server. Everything else works perfectly.

Any ideas? Maybe a bit set wrong in the BIOS?

Some MB support multiple platforms. The 1X00 and 2X00 and 2000 & 4000 models. The change is made by setting the BIOS and Platformbytes at the factory then loading the correct OS. But there can be different memory configurations.

There is a bios flag that is not set correctly. Be careful with this, you can and will render your snap dead :cry: . I know how to correct the problem if it becomes a door stop with the 1 x 2 led pattern. Took me over a year to find a fix. So I'm not giving it out, and advise users not to change the settings.

What needs to be change is the bios flag and/or platformbytes. If you booted from your original HD and the OS did not change (can not tell if the OS version were the same except by watching the led during the first boot), the BIOS flag is set to 0 and needs to be 1. Platformbytes changed according to MB revisions, this needs to be known some over lap models. The problems show up when the snap reboots. Even though the info is not correct it is still working.

This info is displayed by the following commands from debug.
bios model
bios platformbytes

I RECOMMEND NOT MAKING THE CHANGES. :hammer: Even though it may effect how the snap behaves.

bios unlock
bios model (this will give current model 0)
bios model 1 (changes to single drive)
bios lock

Please Note that the Snap uses different code depending on model/platformbytes, even though there is only one sup file. If you decide to make the changes, print out and save current values. I will need the values to make the repair.

Well, if it is this involved (and precarious!), I will let it be. The unit is working just fine the way it is. I replaced the board in the hopes of selling this unit off to save up for a GuardianOS unit (missed out on a 4500 on eBay just a few days ago).

Any interest in my old board to tinker with? I was going to toss it, but if someone could make some use of it, I might as well give it away.
