What does a Serial Number tell you?

Does anyone know the serial number range of sold units on the 2000's?

2200 are still listed as 2000 on the info page so this model was still in current production till resently. The Meridian and Quantum units have been out of many years. The first models were released in the 1997-98 era. I do know when the v1 & v2 SN changed 28k. Years back there was a system in which the SN gave the the model. I have no idea where that note is.

So these two units are the same part number/hardware revision, and fairly close serial numbers. The unit above came with 2 20gig drives in it. Would it be safe to say that the unit below also has 2 20gig drives in it based on how close the serial numbers are?

I would check, it may have been replaced at some time. The 002 is normaly hardware (MB) revision. So the MB v2 uses std PC100/133 low density ram.

I'm not sure how far back this goes, but when I used to support these the S/N#, converted to Hex, was the end of the MAC address.

So 43463 = A9:C7

Can be handy!
