2000 with bad fuse or power supply- How do you tell?
 

How could you tell if the fuse blew?

I have a 2000 that stopped powering up after I attempted to hardwire the fan so that it was on 24/7. I was getting temp warnings in my log, did some reading on this site and discovered that the CPU fan wasn't running all the time.

The unit worked fine before then immediately after I plugged it in and nothing. I checked all of the connections. I even checked the power coming in with a voltage light. Putting each terminal on either side of the fuse- it lit (would indicate to me that the fuse was OK but I can't get any sign of power after the fuse.

The fuse didn't turn color- it is still the same color that it was before I started.

How do you check the power supply?

The cpu fan is controlled by the cpu/bios.

You must use a DVM to test the fuse. The most likely place for a short is the RF shield, where the edge is at the HD power connectons.

Yep it was the fuse. Cool. Really dodged a bullet there. I thought I had managed to fry the whole thing. I couldn't figure out how though. I routed the wiring through the drive power plugs...

Now all I have to do is figure a way to hardwire the fan to 24/7 without blowing another fuse.

There are plenty of topics discussing replacement of fan but nothing talking about the hardware for 24/7. Does anyone have an illustration or instructions?
