Snap Drive Image Files

Hi,
I've seen quite a few references to Snap HD image files. Are these files downloadable here? I could have sworn I saw them here before..... Any help is appreciated!

Not downloadable here. Contain copyrighted material.

A very long time ago yes, till Joe recieved the letter from Adaptec Lawyers (Sticky at top of threads). Were clean now. And plan on staying that way.

Re: Snap Drive Image Files

So is there any way of getting the OS apart from Adaptec? I went to go and purchase the OS for my 2200 and their links don't work. Also I tried to download it from their support and it says I don't have permission to download the file. I currently have a customer service ticket in for this issue but if they don't resolve my issue I was wondering if there is a workaround?

Adaptec does not use the hacker method, image file. The OS you get from them will be the OS only. Adaptec requires you to return the units for them to service $$$. If you have a service contract they may ship you a referb unit.

Ok well I got a reply back from customer support and they pointed me to a link, which I downloaded.

The file is snap_sys.sup. Now I have no idea what to do with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Snap Drive Image Files

Like many others here, I have a 4500 with blank drives.

I have from adaptec:
guardianos_4.4.049_full_OSImage.gsu
guardianos_3.2.026_full_OSImage.gsu <- anyone can get this

Since anyone is allowed 3.2.026, is ok to beg for drive image of that version??

Help!

What you have is the OS (sup) file. You can not install this on a clean HD. You must have a working drive to upgrade to.

If you have a unit that was purchased new and less than 3 yrs old, it should still be covered under warranty.

The factory uses special software to load bare drives. They do (have) not release this software to end users. This is the reason hackers found a way to work around it by doing a raw copy of the boot tracks. This is how the image files originated.

Re: Snap Drive Image Files

top-dawg,

You will need a working guardian OS unit to load a bare drive. The 4500 uses a Watchdog BIOS, and will try to boot all 4 drives if pressent. It's very strait forward, but you must have all of the diaster recovery (snapshots) and AV disable to make the transfer. This is the reason it's hard to find someone willing to tamper and change server settings to prepare a bare drive not for their system. As with all systems if you don't do it right you will loose your data. The guardian os takes up 10 gig of drive space + data space.

Re: Snap Drive Image Files

Thanks for the reply.

Is this 10gigs of OS in it's own partition? Would a ghost of that partition do the trick? Would it be necessary for the doner unit to be reconfigured if we were only taking a ghost image of it?

Should I ever get this up and running I'll be sure to keep an image of the drive somewhere safe.

Re: Snap Drive Image Files

The 10 gig is for the OS files and swap files. It contains like 4+ partitions. But the way the snap saves all of it settings it must be copied over by the Guardian OS. Then if it does not like it you have options of getting in diaster recovery.

Guardian OS is Linux (RedHat)
