Read XFS on Dead 1000
The electronics on my 30G 1000 are dead, dead. I think the HD is OK. I know I can grab sectors with dd. I'm wondering about the "rescue kit" Debian/Knoppix-based live CDs. Can any read XFS?
What do you think the chances are, given a healthy HD and an intact filesystem, of recovering BIG (1.5-2GB) pro audio files (BWAV). This means writing to at least FAT-32 from a rescue CD. Such monster files are bound to be at least somewhat fragmented, so a kosher filesystem read would be needed. What *write* disk formats will the rescue CDs support? Do they do USB? Firewire? ATA-attached DVD-RAM writers? |

Just did - they're kinda, uh, multi-page (g). It's a shame the format is so proprietary, but I presume that was deliberate on Meridian's part (closed system; high prices). |
