hi
i finally got my nas server running , or maybe?, its on the network and i have started storing files , but then it started to playup, it would loose network connection and the only way to restore service is to reboot and once its rebooted it tries to resync the disk and it gets to about 8% and then then it looses network connection and looking at the terminal window theres no errorr report appart from its asking f2check to be run and this canot be run with the admin account.

i think this problem is due to maybe a faulty disk but how do i find the faulty disk as all for disk are part of raid 5 disks

Sounds like a hardware problem, Possiable Hd or thermal problem.

First, use the Browser GUI for configuration/editing/troubleshooting, it is much more reliable and provides much more information.

My intitial impression is that of a failed hard disk, a common annoyance. To see which drive is failing, look at the Storage Menus and the Event Log.

BUT!

You mention that it loses network connection. A failed drive should not normally cause the Snap to lose network connection (I did not say "will not"). This makes me wonder about other things. What? Who knows? More troublshooting information would have to be provided to hazard a guess.

You could have an overheating chipset, cpu, memory, or power supply. You could have a failing motherboard, cpu, memory, or power supply. Any of these could cause the indications you mention, including the RAID degradation. But then of course, it is also possible a drive is failing and dragging down the power supply with it. Adequate information is just not provided to know for sure.

Look for the obvious first (like a failing hard disk or overheating), then go from there.

when i say loss of network connection is that http and ssh fails to connect but get a ping response, it seems the services hangs, the other possible failure could be the memory, but is there a way of checking this ???

Maybe time to run some Diagnostic software on the Snap... If you don't already know how, then probably not worth doing (no offense). Memory test and such would be a good place to start.

If not, maybe swap the memory out and see what happens...
