Dead Snap 1000
Got a Snap 1000 that is dead. Was originally a 20GB model. Model says M1000. Followed all directions for repair and can only get 1 Sys x 2 drive LEDs. No link or com LEDs. Did 2200 drive copy and still nothing. Cannot access unit. Any suggestions???

Re: Dead Snap 1000
The early 1000 requires a 1000 img file of the boot tracks. But some of the Very very very early ones had os in flashram, all you need is a blank HD. The 1 x 2 led pattern says it did not find a bootable HD. So you need the correct image file. Since you tried the 2200.img then you need the 1000.img. Did you make sure you set the jumper correctly, back to master. If that did not work try setting it to CS. The early models have problems with some EIDE drives, in particurly the Maxtor. Which I would not install Maxtor in anything, highest failure rate in the industry. I have gotten several that were bad, righ out of the box.
Does the original drive spin up? is so you may still beable to recover the boot tracks. If not Seal it up in a plastic zip loc bag and put it in the freezer for 20 min and try again. |
